How to have fun with Franchise Mode
MLB is very different to most sports. Unlike the NBA or NFL or even the NHL one player doesn't make a total difference. I'm trying to figure out rather I should draft a team, rebuild, or start out from the top. I tried a game as the Blue Jays the only thing I couldn't stand was RA Dicky. I've also tried as a couple others even in just exhibition games. So fellow The Show players how can I make my Franchise mode fun and I'm still clueless on who to be as I do plan on doing the whole yes I said it the whole 162 game first year. Let me know what you guys think.Tags: None -
Re: How to have fun with Franchise Mode
My personal preference is to re-build! I always play a franchise with my favorite team(the Braves) and then I start a franchise with a struggling team, old team, or just an all out bad team and try and rebuild! I'm not a fan of fantasy drafts but I know a lot of people here love to do them and have a great time building their own team from scratch! There are a lot of ways to have fun in franchise you just have to be committed to the long haul! -

Re: How to have fun with Franchise Mode
i always try to rebuild.
this past week i tried to do oakland, and couldn't afford reddick. which was frustrating.
even with 'good' teams it always (to me) feels like i struggle to make the playoffs with my lineups that i choose, so every team is a rebuild
i also play on storylines. right now i'm doing a red sox one, trying to bring them back to relevance.
you can make any franchise mode fun with a dynasty manager type page. it adds a different element to the game for sure.

I find the only way to realistically have fun in franchise is to play only games in September and beyond. The dog days are for the birds.Comment

Re: How to have fun with Franchise Mode
If you really only plan on playing the first full year, I would say to pick a team that isn't a powerhouse but isn't a perennial loser. Make it a little difficult to make the playoffs but not too difficult to where you're out of contention.MLB is very different to most sports. Try the Pirates, Diamondbacks or Royals. Nice stadiums, good looking uni's and they have talent (but not too much to where you're winning every game).Comment

I'm doing Royals franchise but I would add the Indians, Brewers, Oakland and Rays to that list.Spending time with Jesus!

Re: How to have fun with Franchise Mode
I have done the same thing since mvp baseball lol pick two of worst teams play 5-6 exhibition games with each one. try out some of there minors aswell.
I then trade away there player that makes the most for a prospect and a mlb rdy fill in. I normally make two trades to give my rebuild my personal touch. this year it was mark buehrle and bham for the astros. I build up minors might trade some guys away at deadline. it's cool this way tend to follow that team in real life moreMadden 20 Underrated Player Guide - 1st post has current updated players.

I always look for a team that needs to rebuild. For me, the trades, contracts, scouting, and drafting are the most fun of a franchise.
I also love to pick a team with a cool stadium and nice uniforms.

Re: How to have fun with Franchise Mode
I love the whole development aspect of Franchise. My default is to sim the first 2-3 years and handle the drafting/trades/free agency for my team as I try to get young promising talent. So usually in 2-3 years I have a team of young exciting players with bright futures.
From that point on I just play a few regular season games, and if I'm in a race at the end of the season I will play those games.
Playoffs I play elimination games.
Past games I just couldn't play too many games because it would get kind of boring.
This is DEF my favorite edition of the show though, games now are just so exciting and dynamic I've literally been spending days just playing game after game lol.
I still do sim a lot because I like to keep it fresh and play with new acquisitions ect.Comment

Re: How to have fun with Franchise Mode
I play one franchise file as "Commissioner." In this franchise, I heavily influence the landscape of Major League Baseball.
I first start out with a few teams that I keep an eye on. Right now I'm running the Blue Jays, the Mariners, and the Astros. At any time, I may just switch. This helps keep it fresh. I get to play with multiple teams and all the developing stars.
Using 30 team control I'm able to influence trades and signings. If I feel like the Rockies need to be the next Yankees, watch the big names come in to Mile High. If I think the Dodgers deserve a payroll as small as the Astros', fire sale on the way.
In the end, I just try to have fun and play some baseball and see where the story lines go.Comment

Re: How to have fun with Franchise Mode
This! I always play as the Rays, but on the same franchise I control other teams as well. This year I am playing Rays, Pirates, Astros, and Marlins - one great team, one team I think is on the cusp of being a contender, and two rebuild projects. I am playing the Pirates storyline of reversing the 20 year losing streak by home growing players (and retaining them, if possible - don't want to lose Cutch!) instead of cycling through players nobody remembers. For the Marlins, Jeff Loria had a heart attack and stroke related to cocaine abuse so I am taking over operations for the first year (hopefully with enough success that they let me finish the rebuild job), and for the Astros... I'm going to roll with their experimental situation and try to finish 3rd in the AL West.
Another way to make it more fun is to create yourself as a player and put them on your team so you are invested in playing games. I am making myself, my best friend, and 4 players from my MLB 10 game that I really liked (who were originally part of my All Star Baseball 2004 team and I just recreated them for '10). I distribute them amongst the teams I want to play with and follow their careers! Makes it more fun for me anyway.Comment

Re: How to have fun with Franchise Mode
Im using my two favorite teams from each league this year, so Red Sox and Nationals. But I find my heart is really only with the Sox, so I mostly AUTO Washington.
One unique thing I do with Franchise is I create a digital version of myself and replace a player on my minor league roster with him. So I get to watch my player grow on my own team. This year I am a SP and it makes me play a few games in AA and AAA a season using him. So it adds a little RTTS element into the Franchise.Comment

Re: How to have fun with Franchise Mode
I agree its always been a major draw for me to create myself and put on fave team. Like others, sometimes I create guys from my high school/youth years and put them on same team or around the league and follow their careers. I either make myself a SP and pitch key matchups or put myself in the middle infield.
In past MLB the shows I would always make myself very good right away which kind of felt cheap, but this year I'm loving the new progression system (even if it was nerfed a little too much imo) ands its super fun creating yourself as a fringe top prospect and working your way upComment
