Does anyone else think timing is too sporadic this year?

I have seen some discussion about this, but not a lot. I feel this year I am not making as much solid contact as in previous versions using timing. The PCI is all over the place compared to last year. I used zone hitting in 10' or 11' and let the PCI sit in the middle, I may go back to this again.

That's what I did and it made a world of difference. I also agree that Timing hitting is way too erratic this year.

I said the same thing as my RttS player is a pretty good hitter but the PCI is so random that I find myself striking out a lot more than I ever have in previous games. Timing seems to have been tweaked for the worse in my opinion.

Even with hitting zone and not moving the PCI it will go up or down like timing. If you swing at a slider the PCI will end up where a 4 seamer would land and not where the slider actually lands and change up and so on. With zone you can get away with it more, but it still moves and you will end up with a ton of ground balls. That's on HoF hitting though so probably different on lower levels.

I play franchise and have had to problem with timing hitting I love it. You have to be selective like in real life and not swing at bad pitches. Just because a ball is in the zone doesnt mean its good. Turn off the PCI display thing and play with minimal garbage on your screen. I've never had that on I have no idea where my PCI is located I just see the ball and hit the ball. PCI is controlled by ratings and timing best represents the ratings no matter what anyone says. I don't wanna have the same quality hitting the baseball with David Wright as I am with Marlon Byrd

I lowered Human timing to 4 and get the right amount of hits. Timing best represents hitting a baseball imo, Zone is cheesy like playing a game of whack-a-mole. Sorry I had to vent I see tons of timing haters around here Timing is brilliant once you are grooving the ball and it feels natural I wouldnt play any other way.

You can still try to hit opposite field or pull the ball based on when you time the swing like in real life... not some stupid thing like aiming a crosshair, how many players actually 'aim' their bat? Maybe jose reyes and Starlin castro

The only problem I'm having is the freaking Change-Up. I can't for the life of me get good timing on that pitch. I always swing to early or too late. That is a nasty pitch in the game and in my RTTS they throw it all the time!!..driving me nuts!..lol

            Any suggestions? Please!

I have always been a 'Timing' guy but this year i just cannot take the erratic nature of it.
I have switched to Zone (not moving the PCI) and my results have been dramatically different(for the good).

For me there seems to be a strange phenomenon going on with Zone this year that hasn't been there in previous years and has been mentioned above by another poster.
The fact that even if you don't move the PCI,there are times where if you check your swing box it will show that the PCI has in fact moved to the vicinity of where the pitch was thrown..so for example if it is away sometimes the PCI has moved from the middle of the plate to away to cover some of the pitch.
In years gone by this was never the case if you left the PCI in the middle of the plate that was where it always stayed whereas this year it seems to be somewhat of a crossbreed between Zone and Timing...

I'm really disappointed with the hitting this year. It seems in their attempt to make it easier for the arcade style people something just feels off. The variety of hits has gotten worse instead of better(either hit line drives to infielders or high fly balls...see these two 90% of the time). The infields seem to have some sort of magnetic field, a ground ball up the middle is almost coming to a stop before it gets to the outfield.

I've slobbered over this game since 2008 but the hitting has really put a damper on it.

I think the hitting is good. You shouldn't be getting a hit everytime up with every player. A baseball is hard to get through an infield full of major league players, and there are a lot of high fly balls in real life.

With the expanded Timing Window and the improved timing logic on pitching location, Timing Only hitting is more dependent on good Human timing than it ever has.

I'm not bolding the word to be a jerk either. I'm doing it to emphasize my point.

I really recommend that some of you try dropping the Pitch Speed slider until you play enough games to retrain you muscle memory to the new improvements.

Over 30 games, I'm now hitting .259 with the ATL Braves. I love this mode more than ever this year.

I agree with this. In years past, I couldn't hit a high fastball to save my life. Now, I can get around on about 60% of them. Timing feels much better this year, which also allows me to walk more because I'm not freaking out that I can't get around on a pitch and wind up swinging at everything like I did last year

The PCI is the erratic part using timing hitting for me personally. I understand if I swing early on a slider the pci would be inside like the batter thought it was a fastball. But wht drives me crazy is when I have perfect timing and the pci is upstairs or way outside and I miss it all together.
I play MLB exclusively with my cousin. Usually looking for info on Franchises. We played minor league baseball as 9-10 YOs on the Zephyrs.

That is the best part of timing! I think its just a different philosophy people have when playing the game, but as I said above I dont even know where my PCI is I turn that display off and play the game. That is where the ratings come into play. I don't want my PCI to be perfect on the ball every swing, even with perfect timing. Players whiff on pitches all the time, mis hit the ball, etc How often do you see Pop flys even by the best players in the world? I'm betting those times your PCI misses completely more often occur when players with lower plate vision/discipline stats are batting as it should be. Timing hitting models the differences between different batters better than zone.

I know that with Zone the size of the PCI changes but that is not a big deal once you master zone you will be just as good with Adam Dunn as with anyone else at hitting the ball in the center of the PCI. You can't beat timing hitting! I've never touched zone hitting but thinking logically about how they both work I imagine you get better hit variety with timing as well. There is just too many positives for me.

Just turn off all the junk displays, thinking like a batter, and enjoy the glory of the finest simulation baseball ever created!

I play Timing with everything off. No PCI, no swing info. Ignorance is truly bliss in this case.

I personally am super grateful for the hitting engine this year. I am actually having more fun with this years game than with any past installments of it. I may be playing have started on Beginner for a while, but i have graduated to Rookie, but soon i hope to try Veteran. Don't know if i can handle Veteran just yet but i sure will give it a shot, that is until i go on a massive losing streak or give up a boat load of runs... then i will go back to rookie. I'm done doing the Cha-Cha with sliders so it is default or nothing..

Please Sony, dont make the hitting back to last year... see if we can find a balance between what we have now and that but not take away the ease of hitting for those of us that are finally able to enjoy and play this game!!!!
