Question D symbol

Their is a team beside a players name it has a black back round and a yellow D but it wasn't in the legend any one know what it means?

Not 100% sure, but I'm pretty sure it means he was designated for assignment.

He is designated for assignment.
The team has 10 days to trade him...release him or put him on outright waivers.
The "advantage" to this is...he is immediately taken off the 40 man roster(making room for someone else) and you(they) have the 10 day window to make a move(rather than removing him from the 40 by trying to pass him directly through waivers)
