The presentation needs to be on nba 2k level

Need player stories, more stat overlays etc. I wanna play the game and learn about who a player is. Even if I've never heard of him. Just like I do in nba 2k

I'd rather a game developer focus on gameplay not presentation. If there were ever a video game that focused on presentation and gave us lackluster gameplay... I would never ever support that game.
    Hypothetically.

Hopefully you can read between the lines and realize what I'm getting at!

Owen Good makes some great points and Im sure a lot of users are guilty

      http://kotaku.com/baseballs-video-ga...n-th-509944600

Of the best sports games each year, The Show is the one most often cited for repetitive commentary. But that perception may come from the fact that so many users—myself included—are buttoning through the sequences that would show off it's variety. "Our script writer goes to great lengths to cover as many different types of situations as possible," said Jody Kelsey, the game's senior producer. "By not Xing through presentations, even we sometimes get surprised that we have a line about an obscure situation or play that occurs."

^Those are some great points, but that article does also underscore the need to integrate commentary and presentation more into the actual gameplay, instead of just 25000 random cutscenes.

It's possible to just have a commentator start talking, without zooming in on Evan Longoria's nasal cavity.

Re: The presentation needs to be on nba 2k level

Well SCEA did something interesting this past year with their replays. I'm kind of for it because I feel like they responded to my suggestion of slow-mo replays not cutting to slow-mo sound (and keeping the background noise of the crowd, etc.), but if you X through the cut-scenes of True Broadcast Presentation (or whatever it's called), you won't get your replay. In previous seasons, it would pop up after X-ing through everything.

I don't really want to post it here because I don't want anyone to view it as an insult to The Show's commentary (as that is nowhere near my intent), but I made a YouTube video that has MLB 13: The Show with commentary from MLB 2K13. I just think it is something that people have envisioned in the past, and I wanted to make it true to life. Maybe that might be an example of what the OP is looking for in the commentary.

Definitely some hidden gems in the commentary... just the other day I had an OSD and commentary after scoring a run in every inning. I hadn't realized that I'd never done that, let alone there being specific commentary for it.

The commentary is way above 2k.

What the presentation needs to do is be more dynamic in addressing players who have been traded, drafted, etc.

Re: The presentation needs to be on nba 2k level

I've senn some good stuuf. But I'm talking about a commentator just talking between pitches. Most of the time their is nothing heard except by Matt the play by play guy. Too much dead space between pitches if there's no replay.

Talk about the current streak a pitcher is on, or the batter is on. Tell me a good story about the player as he digs into homeplate for the 10th pitch of the ab. I want that! Show me hitter's average with risp. Average vs pitcher up against. Give me situational stats. Give me team batting avg with risp from the game I'm playing.

The replays are nice, the extra stuff I see are great but I want more than that. Until then I don't see how u can say 2k bball is below this game's presentation.

Re: The presentation needs to be on nba 2k level

I like the game as well but the commentary and presenation needs some work

1.If im using Verlander and Hamilton comes up to bat we should be able to see the career overall stats against that pitcher along with the commenators talking about it.

2.Need a Vin Scully in the game ..We need the players talked about more if you watch any Dodgers game he always talks about what the player has done so far in the season , where hes from , talks about his height/weight sometimes ect that type of stuff

3.If you watch any baseball games you notice the home team bringing in old players in on the commentary for a little bit we need that put in how awesome would it be to see Ken Griffey commentating? ..you get what im saying

Basically the current commentary needs to completely to torn off and bring in a new exciting cast.

If you guys pitch do you ever notice literally on the 1st batter if you fall behind 2-0 he says AS I MENTIONED EARLIER HIS CONTROL IS STILL NOT THERE ...excuse me but that is the leadoff hitter and the first 2 pitches of the game...

Re: The presentation needs to be on nba 2k level

Yeah, there are a lot of hidden gems, its not what SCEA has done, its the commentators. Jack Buck, Scully, Caray, they all described the game in a way that even if they were on TV, they still talked as if they were on the radio. Constant descriptions, talking about players, just casual conversation, that's what is missing. 2k got it absolutely right with NBA, they recorded most everything together. It is quite obvious that the three commentators were never in the same room when recording The Show's stuff. It always seemed really disjointed, like they are piping in the sound from three different booths.

I play with sound off usually, I really don't like the commentary (guess I'm spoiled, being from St. Louis). In this vein, there needs to be a steal indicator so I can queue up my throw before the ball gets to the plate and the camera changes. I know, real life, whatever, but the catcher can look over there before the pitcher comes home, I have a 2"x2" window on a screen far across the room.
"The designated hitter rule is like letting someone else take Wilt Chamberlain's free throws."

Re: The presentation needs to be on nba 2k level

When I am patient enough not to X through, I see and hear some good stuff, but I'll tell you the one line that triggers enough to annoy me: "I tell ya', he's just wearing guys out with that 2-seamer."

They say that even if it's the first 2-seamer you've thrown for a strike all game.

The other one is "94 on the black, straight paint, somethingorother..." Argh! I wish all my pitches were 95+ or 93-.

Tell you what though, the gameplay is so darned good that I can't put this down, and it's a *baseball* game with long-*** seasons and tons of detail to manage. And I'm still immersed.

If they could pull a 2K next gen with the commentary I'd never buy another game.

that's a yes and no on your 2k comment.

2k's commentary shines in the MLB2k series during those long stretches of baseball games where there isnt much happening on the field.

THE SHOWS commentary works well, when there's a number of situations that can happen during a particular scenario. other than that the commentary is purposefully dry.

THE SHOWS commentary really captures that lazy weekend afternoon baseball game feel.

2k's commentary overall has more urgency/life and is more immersive

I've heard the announcers on this game say how they are happy the ge is moving fast lol. Paraphrasing but basically said baseball is boring, even for the announcers who want to go home from how they talked. I guess scea knows their commentary sucks and make fun lol

It's not that they need more dynamic announcing...
They just need to make it feel like the announcers are actually in the same room together, or have ever met.
The problem is that they had each guy recite his lines separately.
The other problem is the choice of announcers. Very dry, west coast. You need an east coast guy.
They have Steve Lyons who is known for being pretty funny. But they don't let him be funny.
There's no personality coming through. And that's the toughest thing to get right. The three have to relate to each other.
I have found that turning Lyons and Karros off makes a better broadcast. Versagian is a bit dry, but he at least keeps me informed.
