Casual Fan Question
Hello guys. My passion for baseball has died down over the years drastically but I'm looking to possibly try to re-spark that. I was thinking of buying the show since I heard good things about it. Haven't played a baseball since the great MVP baseball 2005. My question is should I get MLB the show 12 for really cheap ($6) or MLB 13 for around $15-20. Is there a significant difference from 13 and 12?
Thanks.Last edited by canesfins; 03-03-2014, 01:07 AM.Tags: None -

Yes there is a significant difference.
One thing different is MLB13 has a Beginner mode that helps you adapt to the game. It also has MLB Live where you can play the actual games on the schedule with the real lineups as there were IRL as well as a better Diamond Dynasty mode where you can create your own team and player and compete against others.
Not to mention the MLB12 servers are dead so you cant play online or access any of the online features like player or roster vaults or play DD at all.
Thats why MLB12 is only $6 -

Re: Casual Fan Question
Oh okay thanks guys for the quick responses. It's just there is a lot of games in a season so I wouldn't plan on playing all of them. Hopefully simulation of games doesn't take forever. (That was a killer for me in NHL 13, the season was so long and simulating just a single week took FOREVER.)Comment

Re: Casual Fan Question
I would highly recommend 13 over 12. Not that 12 is a bad game, but 13 is the best game to date, and its significantly better than 12. Especially if you havent played The Show before 13 is the 1 you want to get. Hitting is easier to get the hang of in 13, would be the main reason to get it. Plus if you get it right now you can get a great edited roster from the vault with real minor league players, plus pitch edits and rerates. I would suggest a roster by ilstu on here. While SCEA makes the best sports game hands down, there rosters leave a lot to be desired, as they are very poorly done, as far as pitcher repertoires, and player ratings.Hello guys. Re: Casual Fan Question
I'm sure you might have heard, being on this forum but if not, '14 is introducing Quick Counts and Player Lock, both of which can drastically speed up gameplay while maintaining realism in the stats department. It will cost more than '12 or '13 but it may be worth considering if that's what you're looking for. Also the online services will be supported for a whole year longer than '13 will so there's that too. But again, costs more. Whatever you're into, manOh okay thanks guys for the quick responses. Re: Casual Fan Question
I can't remember exactly what the number of games option is (there is more than two choices). But when you start your season or franchise you are presented with the option of determining how many games per season you play. For sure there is 162 games, plus 81 games. But then there are one or two more options (once again I can't remember the exact number). Also you can specify how many innings each game will be. I have always kept it at the default of 9, but the option to change does exist.
PS: simming an entire days worth of games takes the PS3 less than one second to complete. So you could do the entire 162 game season and sim the games you don't want to play. Of course the results are dependent on the sim engine and you could have more wins or losses than if you played the games.Last edited by My993C2; 03-03-2014, 10:34 AM.Comment

Re: Casual Fan Question
Update: ordered a used copy of mlb the show 13. What really convinched me is seeing the RTTS mode and how cool it looked unlike maddens and ncaa fails in road to glory. Looking forward to starting a closing pitcher career or a starting pitcher. Thanks to those who answered my questions and made this an easy decision.Comment

Enjoy it. It's an amazing game. But don't get discouraged if you're not any good at first. It takes some learning.Update: ordered a used copy of mlb the show 13. Re: Casual Fan Question
I will actually it more if it's tough and I lose a lot. The reason is because I become so good at games like Madden and NCAA from all the years playing them that it resulted in me rarely losing to the CPU.Comment

Re: Casual Fan Question
I just checked out the choices for number of games and innings per game in MLB 13. In Franchise Mode you are not allowed to change the number of games per year. You are stuck with the 162 game schedule (of course you don't actually have to play the games, you can sim them). In Season Mode you can play a 14 game season, a 29 game season, a 81 game season or play the full 162 game calendar. Plus you can play the full 9 innings all the way down to only 1 inning games.
So there are more configuration options in Season Mode (plus in Season Mode you can play more than one year). The only real down side to Season Mode is you can only control the 40 man roster for a given organization whereas in Franchise play you can control all the players in your MLB, AAA, AA and even class A roster (though I do not think you can play the class A games, you just have access to the players).Comment
