    I need help hitting

I am struggling bad at the plate. Just started playing two days ago and feel good with the rest of the game, but I can't get a handle on hitting. I have tried all the different methods, and timing is the only one I have any success on whatsoever. I have even tried dialing the difficulty down, but still suck.

Typically I am hitting popups and weak grounders. I use the "normal" swing for the most part except when I get behind in the count I use "contact". Either way, I just barely get good wood on the ball.

I do have a tendency to swing a lot, but I am missing pitches down the middle and tipping them back to the pitcher or dribbling it foul.

How do I get better at hitting? How do I influence grounders/fly balls? And how do I adjust my swing or swing at the ball? I thought using the left stick would do this but it apparently has no bearing, unless I am missing something.

    Thanks in advance

Try Dynamic Difficulty and Quick Counts.

Dynamic Difficulty should make up for your lack of experience and Quick Counts really helps make up for those free swingers like you and me who swing at a lot of pitches.

What and where is "Quick Counts"?

      Thanks for your help.

Furthermore, on the swing feedback stuff, no matter what I do it shows the yellow circle in some random place no where near the ball. I have tried different buttons/sticks trying to control the yellow circle (again, on the fedback, not in Zone hitting) but I can't find the correlation between what I am doing and where it ends up.

I have also tried guessing the pitch, guessing the location, and both and neither. What is the effect on this? There have been times where I got both right and had the vibrating control and all, but still popped up or something. What is the penalty for guessing wrong and right and what is the best approach to using it?

It is because you are using timing hitting and the yellow circle is where the batter is looking for the ball. This is largely determined by their plate vision and there is nothing you can do about it.

It may be just me, but I think zone hitting is easiest. 75% of the time leave it in the middle and typically that should allow for decent contact. In situations where you are confident of a location move the pci over.

I rarely guess pitch or location. I guess type more I guess. Instead of guessing location I just move the pci to where I am looking for it.

Hitting is much more difficult this year than it has been in years past. I had to lower the difficulty to veteran. I've never used veteran before, always has been AllStar in the past. But I'm getting pretty good results now.

Also try lowering the pitch speed slider.

A good camera where you can read the pitch is important for me and pitch speed slider.

                    Re: I need help hitting

I had a similar problem when I started to play this game a week or so ago, but I have just put the hours in at the batting practices and gradually improved.

I try to wait for a decent mid level pitch to get a good hit, but I do okay and I think the numbers I'm putting up in my franchise are now not that different to what I see in the real games on ESPN. I still have a lot of improvements to make, and more practice to put in, but I feel it won't be too long before I'm ready to move up off 'Beginner' to 'Rookie+' now.

                    Just keep at it.

                      Yeah, it feels that way.

Almost 30 games into my Franchise on AS (like I always do) and am hitting under .250 as a team (which has never happened to me).

                      I like a challenge though!

The camera has so much to do with your hitting performance. I use a custom offset camera on the inside of the plate, have been for a few years. I never want to change it! It also tremendously increases the value of switch-hitters.

                          Re: I need help hitting

I usually start off lowering pitch speed by 1 every year, then I usually up it back to normal when I feel like I am hitting too much.

As stated here...I can't not stress how important a custom camera view was for me. I start off with GMo's camera and tweak from there. This has been a huge factor in recognizing/reading pitches for me.

For your issue I would raise Hum timing slider as this year they made some changes to timing from last year. I would also, if needed, raise Hum Contact (affects plate Vis and Disp) and/or Hum solid hits(affects choppers and pop-ups) till you get better then lower them as you see fit

I just use the timing +1 and pitch speed -1 this year and it works for me and I feel like I am a terrible free swinger. but I have laid off of the out of zone pitches as I can read them. I just have trouble taking a strike LOL

Where do I go to see the settings of that customers camera? I keep trying to search the forums for it but can't find it. I appreciate any help that you could provide!

I've found this to be most helpful too.

Albeit, Yordano Ventura had 16 K's against me in 8.1 IP the other day. 99/100 mph fastball and a 78 mph curve...was just brutal.

But that said...I typically use a view that's behind the pitcher...offset to a little to his right to be able to see speed of the pitches. Straight on and you can see location well, but not speed. I also like this view as it's closest to what you'd see on a TV broadcast.
