The White Sox generally like to keep guys as starters for as long as possible. If/when Montas proves he can no longer hack it as a starter, possibly as he reaches the upper levels of the minors, then he'll likely transition to a high leverage reliever.

I fully believe we intend to give him every oppurtunity to be a starter in the ML, with most scouting reports pegging him as a #3 starter if he sticks there, but it is indeed possible that his future is as a power closer.

As far as his control goes, his walks per 9 dropped from 4.1 in 2013 to 2.4 in 2014, though he only pitched in 15 games last year due to injury. If he can continue to improve in that area I think he can stick as a starter as he'll likely have two plus pitches (FB, SL) and possibly an average change.

If he sticks as a starter, then great, but even if he doesn't he looks like a ready-made replacement for David Robertson as the closer.

Adams profiles similar to Edwin Diaz IMO, so probably closer to 83-84.

Interesting. Guess I am undervaluing Adams.

mid 90's with the potential for 3 average to above average pitches and average command, if he maxes out his projection that's #2/#3 starter upside. Of course most guys fail to hit their ultimate upside so something closer to a #3/#4 makes more sense (for now at least).

Spencer Adams should be around 83-84. I agree.

Re: OSFM 2015: Chicago White Sox

Sox announced NRI's for spring training. Couple interesting names on the list.

Updating the list...

Sox went out and signed OF Engel Beltre over the weekend.

The list is now full. This move made the decision for the 90th player quite easy.

Re: OSFM 2015: Chicago White Sox

I can confirm that Zach Duke is going to wear #33 and Dan Jennings will be #43. Met them over this past weekend over at SoxFest 2015 and they both signed a ball for me with their new numbers.
