Re: #OSFM 17: New York Yankees

    Thoughts? Any glaring omissions?

The cupboard is a bit bare for 1B/3B and I'd be surprised if there weren't a couple free agent signings there to fill out AA/AAA.

From the Single-A group, I think we definitely need to include Domingo German (40-man roster), James Kaprielian, and Blake Rutherford. I think Acevedo, Clarkin, and Tate would be the next tier (maybe Abreu as well).

This weekend I'm hoping to compare this list against various 2016 OSFM iterations to see who still needs to be created and who just needs an update.

Of course, we'll also need to discuss potentials. I think the strength of the system is in the B/B+ range. Right now Gleyber is the only no doubt A for me, with Frazier at a B+/A-. Mateo, Rutherford, Kaprielian, and Sheffield are probably strong B/B+. Others in the discussion for B include Adams, Andujar, Acevedo, and Abreu.

Yeah, the tough thing is that the Yankees are deepest at SP and MIF it seems. Right now there's Wade, Torres, and Mateo at SS at AA. Do you take Park or Holder over Wilkerman Garcia? Do you choose Finley over the legion of other lower level pitchers like Acevedo, Abreu, etc?

Those are all good suggestions and definitely guys I'd like to see included if space allows.

Yeah. Maybe dropping Widener or Cortes for Finley would be my thoughts. And I would say Holder over Amburgey or Zehner. I appreciate your work every year on this set.

Looks like the Yankees signed 1B Ji-Man Choi to a minor league contract, which makes sense. They didn't really have a "real" 1B at AAA.

Haha, as many I can. I don't have a Baseball America subscription, so my most used sites right now are Scout (Pinstripes Plus), MinorLeagueBall (John Sickels), and Fangraphs. I also google individual players when there's not much available and find info on other sites as well. I've started looking at 2080 as well and River Ave Blues also has Yankees info.

Guys I have a question I don't have 16 anymore but Brian Cashman today stated that Joe Mantiply will be a factor in our bullpen at times this year so does anyone know if he was in the game last year. Cuz I feel like the developers for the game are gonna leave him of the default roster. So can someone check n let me know.

If he played in the MLB last year, he'll be in next year. Same as every other baseball videogame that has ever come out.

Dude ik that but gonna be very hard to tell if the roster developers are gonna put him on the Yankees default roster. Very little MLB experience the only reason I care cuz there is nothing I hate more then having a player with MLB experience not having a picture. I hate the created player faces. Even tho as a Yankee fan we are gonna see a ton of those this year.

Sometimes guys who are in the default roster have the created face. I answered your question that yes, with MLB experience last season, he will be in the default roster of the game. Whether he has a picture or not, who knows.

Ok, quick list of pitchers that I think we need to build from scratch for OSFM 17. Next I'll put up a list of position players. I'll also start to work on existing guys to update Ht/Wt/Age and reevaluate ratings/potentials based on the last year of data. If anyone would like to start working on faces, equipment, or stances/motions, please let me know and we can start organizing all that.

                          To be created
SP Yefrey Ramirez - acquired in minor league Rule 5 draft, not top shelf stuff but performed very well in 2016, thinking mid-C potential

SP James Reeves - started a little bit older, has pitched both as a starter and reliever, lower arm slot, FB/SL, working on CH, thinking low-C potential as starter, very good numbers in 2016

SP Josh Rogers - good numbers in 2016, average stuff but good control, low-C potential, lower ceiling with higher floor

SP Zack Littell - good numbers in 2016, stuff ticking up with curveball that shows plus, low-C potential

SP Nestor Cortes - command guy with average (at best) FB and decent secondary, mid-C potential

SP Albert Abreu - big velo, 3 secondary pitches, young with good ceiling, some control issues and risk, low-B potential?

RP Matt Wotherspoon - has moved quickly, big fastball, middle-inning reliever, low-C potential

RP J.P. Feyereisen - hard to hit, struggles with command, 2 pretty solid pitches, mid-C potential

RP Travis Hissong - good numbers in minors but not overpowering stuff, not a lot of info on him, low-C potential

RP Caleb Frare - missed time with injury but good return in 2016 and still young, stuff seeming to play up in bullpen, mid-C potential

RP Taylor Widener - dominated lower minors after being drafted, helped by bump in velocity, solid slider, new change, mid-C potential (they may try to stretch him out as a starter this year IRL)

And here are the position players. Again, give me a holler if anyone is interested in doing faces, equipment, etc.

                            To be created
C Jorge Saez - selected in minor league portion of Rule 5 draft, likely just to fill a spot in the org, D potential

1B Chris Gittens - big guy with big pop but a bit one dimensional, thinking low-C potential

2B Thairo Estrada - versatile and fairly talented, put up good numbers in 2016 at a young age, somewhat underrated possibly, high-C potential

SS Tyler Wade - generally ranked fairly high, solid bat without power, solid speed and defense, high-C potential

SS Hoy Jun Park - still quite a few question marks as he transitions to American baseball, the tools are likely there and the ceiling is good, but enough uncertainty to probably give him a mid-C for now

OF Zach Zehner - no standout tools, will have to hit his way up the ladder, maybe D potential

OF Rashad Crawford - toolsy but still raw, did well with Yankees after trade but still risky, maybe mid-C potential?

OF Estevan Florial - very toolsy but of course very young, high ceiling and high risk, high-C potential right now probably best balance of those factors

J.P. Feyereisen, Albert Abreu, Thairo Estrada, and Tyler Wade.
