One thing about the career ratings scale, and this would go for any ratings system, the overall values for players increase as you get closer to present day. In the early years, not many players hit for a lot of power, and pitchers didn't rack up the strikeouts or throw with the same velocity, These areas really drive the overall ratings of an individual player up. You really notice the difference as you move forward. So, I tried to "dumb down" the current players in AA to get a more even range. For example, in MLB 19 JD Martinez was rated 93 and Andrew Benintendi was 86. Those ratings for these players are too high for this roster set. For these players, I flattened the curve, so to speak, so they fall more in line with players of previous eras. It's not an exact science but I did my best.
That's one thing many cross decade all time rosters miss. How to "baseline" the set. Your example of players from the earlier days not hitting as many homeruns etc is spot on.

I struggled with this with Madden. How do the 1966 Packers compete with the modern day teams? Their defensive linemen were smaller and lighter than some modern day LBs and safeties. It's a challenge to say the least. Glad you put some thought and effort into it...

Re: Classic Teams - MLB 19

Ok I have paired the all-decade teams with their respective franchises on the OP. I'm one team away from being done with the AL East. I'm just pulling players from my All-Time Top 50 set, so with no rerating or creating, it should move along quickly. I'm excited about eventually moving to MLB 20 and creating uniforms. Both West divisions will have the "best of the rest" from combined decades.

Once this project is completed, I'm gonna take a breather, and then I'll bring over a few classic team roster sets that I made on MLB 18. These sets will be for franchise play with no duplicate players. With the roster transfers being so easy now, I want to make sure some of these teams move on.

Two teams left and the AL all-decade squads will be finished. Then onto the NL. Hope to have this done by the end of the week

Re: Classic Teams - MLB 19

I forgot to mention that my top 50 all-time set that I built on MLB 19 might have about a 4 or 5 players missing when you take them over to MLB 20. I left a few players in that may have now retired and not be included in MLB 20 so you may see a couple of cpu created players in their place. I'll clean that up when I get over to MLB 20.

Re: Classic Teams - MLB 19

I came up with a neat format to assemble my classic teams for MLB 20. I'll be organizing them here on MLB 19. Once I work out the kinks and finish my all -decade teams, I'll post team set lists on the OP.

Re: Classic Teams - MLB 19

The AL is complete and I'm nearly finished of the NL East for my all-decade set.

Re: Classic Teams - MLB 19

Only about 7 teams left for my all-decade set. It's the May long weekend up here in Canada, so I may not have them done by the weekend but they'll certainly be done next week.

I posted a link to a spreadsheet for my plan to move some of my classic teams over to MLB 19 on the OP. I'm looking at a divisional era concept. The rosters I have on the sheet will be the base sets and I'll swap in other teams for a couple of different versions which I'll eventually add to the sheet. You'll notice I am using the current franchises as placeholders for some of my classic teams. I intend on rebranding the teams when I get to MLB 20 so if that doesn't interest you then you may not care for this setup.

We don't have custom leagues, so I thought the interdivisional idea kinda gives the sense of a mini-league for the era as the teams play the division rivals often. I spaced the teams in each division 20 years apart to more easily avoid player duplication. I really think it'll be a fun set to take through a franchise. I'll be building these rosters on a current 2020 set so current MLB players will be moved to AAA and the AAA players will drop to AA. There is no timeline on this as I'll just get things in motion when I feel like it. After the all-decade set, I want to get back to my top 50 all-time franchise for a while.

If you'd like to share your thoughts, I'd be interested in hearing what you think of this idea.

Re: Classic Teams - MLB 19

OK the all-decade teams are set! I have to do some re-rating of the current players and a few created players. Then they'll be ready for the vault. Probably just a couple more days.
