this is my personal preference too. I'm always fine with generic reasonable facsimile, as long as they aren't all decked out in today's god-awful baggy pants. today's players look like they're playing ball in their pyjamas

Yeah, I basically did a generic build for uniform (no batting gloves, era appropriate pants, no elbow pads or special helmets etc. Then I got the skin color, general hair style, sideburns, facial hair and if they wore glasses. That's about as much work as I put into appearances. I grew up playing RBI baseball and Tecmo Super Bowl. I can live with fairly generic players.
