Bunt Exit Velocity HAS To Be Toned Down

I'm sure they've turned it up to keep "bunt cheese" down in DD, but in offline Franchise playing as an NL team, the Sac Bunt is almost not an option anymore.
I'm using the Braves and Foltynewicz, a guy who has 99 bunting, has hit into 3 double plays while bunting through 17 games. The other Pitchers on my staff have faced a similar fate.

The ball comes off the bat way too hard and/or baserunners at first don't get a good enough jump off the bunt. I find about 80-90% of my Sac Bunts to get the lead runner thrown out which defeats the purpose. Is anyone else seeing this? I'm on Legend BTW.

Are you releasing the button just as the ball is about to hit the bat to deaden it?

        ^^THIS

It takes some skill to get used to, and once you do it's very rewarding. Even pulling the bat back on a ball. When it happens it's like scoring a goal in hockey. But it's frustrating.

Alongside this - have any of you ever had a close play / challenge on a base OTHER THAN FIRST??

I'd definitely pop into practice mode with a good bunter (to start) and get a feel for it. It's hard, but as mkharsh said, it's rewarding when done well.

I’ve played the show since 06 and have never done this actually. Is it a new gameplay feature? If so I appreciate that tip so much lol. I usually square early and hold it and only pull back for a ball!

I have not, but I have resorted to turning it off because it’s too easy for me to guess right every time so it seems like a waste of a few seconds to go through a challenge!

I usually quick manage the at bat when it’s time to bunt sadly. But ready what josh said about pulling back.....I’ll have to try that. Never knew that was a thing.

Re: Bunt Exit Velocity HAS To Be Toned Down

In 2019 I would always use quick manage to do the hunt because it would be successful most of the time. Because the CPU would throw to 2nd almost every time and get the lead runner out. So I would do quick manage it and when the CPU would bunt I would always throw to first to make it fair.

I will try this. Because I have seen a couple of times that they throw to 2nd and the runner is safe. So you get a chance to not give up an out.

Whelp this is both world shattering and yet makes a ton of sense.

A part of me is mad at myself for never thinking to try this. Thank you for sharing this tip.

Wow...never heard this before. SDS tmk has never said this when they were trying to fix rocket bunts. Is in not placebo effect? Last year I was just holding the button and getting much better bunts than this year doing the same thing.

That said, the bunt ratings should matter but I know some roster makers who do editing ignore the bunt rating as they believe it has not impact.

i play MOM games and cpu vs cpu games only. the bunting in this game is atrocious! every ball is bunted hard to first baseman or even second baseman. the cpu makes stupid decisions that players would never make like 9 out of 10 times fire to second to try and get the force and sometimes are late. should just take the easy out like in real life which would be alot better if every bunt wasnt hit with a super ball! ive never seen a bunt just die in front of the plate. that would be a nice change. everything else is much better this year they just need to fix this and ill be happy!

I play the same way. The bunt has really been eliminated as a strategy because of this issue. I even tried a bunt with a man on 2b only and the bunt went right to the thirdbaseman who raced in and threw to 1b.The runner on 2b didn't bother to go to third even with good speed and aggressiveness. So even a bunt to move a runner from 2b to 3b is not an option.

Another thing I've tried is having the runner begin a steal only for the bunt to be popped up. Done this several times.

I only bunt with players, especially pitchers, who are rated over 90 for bunting.

The only way to get it to work is to sim the AB.
