Question about DD

First of all I thought I posted this earlier today but I can't find it so I apoligize if this is a duplicate.


I've been playing MLB The Show since 2018, I own 18-22 but like 2020 the best. I've only Played RTTS, no other modes including DD but would like to learn how to play DD. I have a few questions that I can't find answers to in the YouTubers videos or general reseach online.

1. When I open a pack and it tells me to pick one player out of the choices do I have to put that player in my lineup or lose it or does it go into my inventory of cards?

2. Do I have to have all players from the same team or can I make my team out of any of the cards I have collected?

3. If you can use any players to form a team I assume it is best to have the highest rated players in each position? any reason that wouldn't be true.

4 What are the default settings for playing online in DD, I mean difficulty

If you don’t put the card in your lineup it will automatically go to your inventory.

You can build your team with the best cards (or your favourite) in your inventory.

I’ve never played online so I don’t know the default difficulty for head to head games.

There are also several offline modes you can play in DD. Conquest maps ( sort of like a baseball version of RISK), moments and challenges you can buy your way into with stubs.

Conquest games are only 3 inning games though but there’s some fun to be had it you don’t enjoy online.

Thanks for the reply, Yes I saw the offline modes and plan to use them to practice for online play someday I hope. I've spoiled myself in RTTS with easy settings so I do well.

I opened a pack and it had Dennis Eckersley I think rookie card 1975 for the Indians I looked in my inventory and in the Indians he wasn't there so I went to the A's and he was there but grayed out??? it was an Event are those different than cards? where can I find these guys.

Maybe I should just ask a question about packs.

Are there different types of cards for players that can and cannot be used on my team? If I can use any card why don't they show up in my inventory. I don't want to open any more packs until I understand this better.

The events have roster restrictions, go to that page and it will show the rules....right now is a Moonshot forever event (so common-only pitchers and any hitters). Most online games default to All Star.

If you want a purely unrestricted roster experience for online, you need to play ranked seasons. But to be honest. If you are just starting-out, you will need to engage with the slew of offline programs and build-up your talent pool. Opening packs really doesn't matter as much in this mode.

Isn't the whole thing about DD is using cards to build a team to play with?

Can you expand on which slew of offline programs I will need to use to build up my talent? My thought was there has to be others like me who would like the online experience and although the games at first might be terrible I was thinking that would be a good way to learn. I don't ever plan on playing anyone who is so good at the online game they make videos about it, hell it would be a waste of their time.

Yes, and honestly, the best way to earn good cards is to roll through the offline content. You can certainly try diving straight into online games, but I think you're going to be really out-classed roster-wise which will probably make the game MUCH more frustrating than it should be. Playing through the "other programs" can give you some needed roster ammunition.

I would start with the post-season program and September monthly program. There's a lot of solid cards in those programs that you can use as a foundation and they can mainly be done using whatever cards you have early-on. You'll begin to chip away at missions for different 'other programs' as you deal with those (as well as gain progress in the main program).

If you only want to play online, you can certainly do that, but I think you're robbing yourself of the best part of the DD experience by doing so.

No, each game is completely independent of the other.

What do most people do with all the cards and stubs before upgrading? is there anything to do with them?

There's nothing to do with them. Everyone starts over from scratch each year - otherwise it'd be a pointless mode as there would be no team-building.

Can I use MLB The Show 20 to play online against people who have 21 ro 22 or even 23 when it comes out
