I can't throw or control player on base

I recently started plating MLB The Show 22 against a friend online ( NOT DD ) I think it is Exhibition mode where you just set up one game at a time.

I haven't played MLB the show since 2018 but I only played RTTS so there a lot that I need to get used to, the 2 major thing that I'm having problems with is whenever a player gets the ball that's been hit and I press for example 1st base button he just acts like he's throwing it but never throws the matter how many times I press. If I can't throw the ball never going to win so there's something In the settings that I don't know how to do I assume. Also when I have runners on base I'm used to using my left joystick in RTTS To control the runner. I have yet been able to figure out how to control the runner when I'm playing online against a friend in the exhibition mode. Once again just to clarify we are not playing diamond dynasty.

I would appreciate if someone could help me out and tell me what I'm doing wrong

Sound like you got thrown canceling on. (Double tapping causing to pump fake) press the corresponding base button once. Double tap if you want to change, say, circle button but want to throw to third or home you hit that button after the Double tap.

Baserunning is left stick but if you know right away you want to send a lead runner you'd hit the lift stick ( if you have the diamond emblem in top corner it helps identify the highlighted base runner) same principle would apply triangle for second base and square for third x for home. Just make sure the runner is highlighted.

The top left and top right buttons on the back of the controller will advance all or send all back.

Check what type of throwing yiu have enabled in the settings and check the throw canceling setting.

Throw cancelling is Off. Can someone point me to a video showing how to control base running in this situation. I can't seem to understand it reading it and it doesn't work for me in the game

Honestly if you're just starting out I'd go into the "Options Explorer" mode from the main menu and familiarize yourself with the throwing and running controls there (and also save whichever setting you like best, which options explorer allows you to do too). If throw canceling isn't on my guess would be that you're only seeing the "gather" animations, which means you haven't triggered a throw and the fielder just stands there holding the ball after picking it up (and with the way some of them branch they could be mistaken for "starting to throw")

Also a little piece of advice on running since that's by far the most complicated of those two - The L1 Advance All can do a whole lot more than you might think. Because of runners on base taking leadoffs, they'll just about always reach the next base before the batter reaches first. So, if you want to take one extra base with the runners already on base, just hold down L1 until the lead runners cross the base, but then release it before the batter reaches first. This allows things like going first-to-third and second-to-home to happen on one button press. Using the left stick does allow for much more precise control (and is necessary for rare cases like a 0 speed runner on base with a 99 speed at the plate), but controlling individual runners in the heat of the moment can also get very complicated.

I've got the throwing figured out.. Once again it's the baserunners I have problems with. I really don't want all runners advancing or going back. I want to be able to control each runner separately. I will play around in the Explorer some.

You need to use the advance all and return all when it makes sense. But using that doesn't stop you from doing individual control in the same set up.

What hitting system are using?

I'm confused with your reply. I know I can use the individual runners and I said I was not sure how to do that. You keep saying I can but not telling me how?

If you use Analog Select for baserunning you have to point the left stick at the runner you want to control and then press the base you want them to run to.

For hitting are you using zone, directional or timing?

I figured out what you were asking. The reason I could see the API was I was using zone hitting. I changed it and now I can see the API. The running bases I have figured out also.
