The Elephant In The Room: The Athletics in MLBTS25.

So they definitely won't be the Oakland A's next Show around, they won't be the Vegas A's either-or the Sacramento A's. They are in a in-between sort of purgatory the Washington Football Team was in a few Madden's ago, only opposite. Will The Show just have them listed as Athletics? The A's? Maybe they ought be the Swinging A's, swinging from city to city. I hope Sony is able to keep the rights to the Coliseum in the game. Whatever road games I play against the Athletics, I would love to keep playing against them in Oakland.

It would also be fantastic if Sony could get permission from MLB and the Athletics to let us relocate and name them whatever we want, be it Vegas , Las Vegas, Sacramento, Oakland or heck, even Montreal. Whatever city we choose. Thoughts?

I don't have any real insight but I was wondering this same thing. Its kinda a mess. Not sure what the show will do. Maybe it'll be clearer during the winter.

I had read that there will not be a city associated with them while they are in Sacramento, they will just be the A’s. I don’t remember where I read that at.

Edit: I read it in the Sacramento Bee.

Re: The Elephant In The Room: The Athletics in MLBTS25.

It would just be weird if you start a multiple years franchise in 25 and never have a city to represent if you play say, ten years or so. There's probably not a ton of franchises being played as the A's but for those who do, I'm sure they would appreciate being able to at least choose whether or not to be Oakland or Sacramento or Las Vegas, even if Sony/MLB didn't go so far as let you choose just any city. They may not want you to be able to choose Oakland or Sacramento either but if they don't let you choose Vegas, I wonder if that can be taken as a sign MLB isn't taking it as a given the A's will actually ever play there.

This would be a logical time to implement a true relocation/expansion mechanic within franchise mode, but I'm doubtful that we get one this iteration
          Chicago Cubs
          Michigan Wolverines

I dont know how NBA2k gets such a difficult task done but the Show franchise mode would be awesome if they could pull off the same feat.

I think the issue is the year to year schedule. I'm just guessing but I feel like the NBA/NFL schedules are much less difficult.

Thats what I believe. Schedules are MLBTS Achilles heel. I hope going to a schedule of where everybody plays every body will help. Then you gotta throw MiLB affiliates in on top.

Good point about the MiLB too. So much is tied to the existing teams in franchise I feel like relocation would be a real chore that they might not want to spend months figuring out if only a small percentage of gamers would actually use it.

I'm sure in the offseason there will be some kind of official announcement/guidance from MLB on the name/branding of the A's and The Show fill follow suit.

I hope they're making a Sutter Health Park for their game, but that they also have the "in" on what renovations will be made there for the A's going in next season.

However, I wonder if they can pull an Acclaim and also try and make their newer Vegas stadium based on the early renderings, and then in a few years we can actually place them there.

P.S. I love the Stomper nod.

I'm still going to have them in Oakland, wearing their Oakland throwbacks, hoping the Oakland Coliseum will be in the classic stadiums.
Would the lady who left her nine kids at Wrigley Field please pick them up immediately? They are beating the Cubs 4-0 in the 7th inning!

They've already announced it. They're just The A's.

As for long term they'll just add Las Vegas or Vegas to the A's. They've kept the Athletics through Philadelphia, Kansas City and Oakland so why change now?

Re: The Elephant In The Room: The Athletics in MLBTS25.

Re: The Elephant In The Room: The Athletics in MLBTS25.

We have the Aviators, but the park is out in Summerlin. Locals all know the difference but if you fly in, stay in downtown (or, god forbid, Santa Fe Station, whose sign I can see from my driveway, not that it’s a bad hotel but this is pretty far from the touristy parts), and end up at the wrong park good luck making it to the right one on time. Maybe they can bring back the ‘51s for AAA team.

Whatever they choose, I really wonder if John Fisher’s attorneys have realized the poison pill they put in the bill that is in the NRS at this point. I mean they did pass it in an emergency session and I don’t know how many people were paying attention but I sure was - my tax dollars, however indirectly, would be funding the project in some capacity, even if we don’t have an income tax we do have property and sales and the usual - and essentially the 700+ million shortfall they have can’t be covered by using the allocated land for a hotel/casino, and this also cannot be changed for the duration. We’re not necessarily *******s here but we do have a “don’t screw with us” vibe and we haven’t paid off Allegiant yet (T-Mobile is entirely private) and they will host anything the Sphere and T-Mobile can’t host in terms of size. There’s still no concrete plans as to the funding except laughably the hotel/casino gets brought up once in a while but that’s as far as it goes. So maybe they should just record Sacramento A’s into the voicebank, it might be a bit. The right to build doesn’t compel you to build, especially when you can’t afford it. And they definitely can’t afford it right now or any time soon.

(Rob Manfred should have stepped in by now. Bud Selig would’ve pulled the O’Malley long before it got to this point, but Rob Manfred isn’t an owner and as a lawyer in the same city I watched more Ricky Nolasco trying to pose as a pitcher than he watched west coast games in total in a season. It’s not even a clout thing since the anti-trust exemption is tied to the commish and not the owners specifically, as in, the umbrella organization led by the commish, so in theory he has the clout no matter who’s paying his salary. This is a real disgraceful situation on all parts with no real end in sight.)

Also, if you collect baseball cards, the Angels are still just “the Angels” on Topps products. I don’t think any fan thinks the dig is inappropriate. But one team may be subtle, two teams may be… too obvious? Arte did also snitch on the mayor and a city council member and now both are in the fed pen. This situation is more public and in some sense, affects the sport even more. Enough turds have been polished and it haven’t helped much. This is also a weirdly resident-friendly state in terms of regulations around anything tourist-related on an administrative level: 5 people, myself included, waited through the pandemic and rebutted every objection, most of them ridiculous (Google’s datacenter isn’t sufficiently big enough to host online gaming? Then whose is?) The proposal initiated in 2019 got passed with little fanfare and the 5 of us never talked to each other but fended off Boyd and Wynn and 500 reschedulings of workshops. I very much don’t think Fisher knows quite the scale of what he may be faced up against. People are watching.

So yeah, Boog, get that Sacramento A’s part recorded, it might be needed for a bit.
