MLB The Show 25's new first-person fielding

Re: MLB The Show 25's new first-person fielding
Am I the only crazy person that would like to see a first person hitting option? If you've ever stood in a batters box you know that even the custom camera can't really duplicate that POV.
Anyway this definitely looks like player lock from another perspective, which is what we expected. Guess they'll probably bring it up in the feature premiere as well.
PSVR2 isn't supported and this seems like it'd be a great way to introduce it...oh well.

Hoping it’s more like all star baseball was and not just used for player lock. Seems that way though. Still cool!Comment

I would like to see first person hitting, pitching, and fielding. Make it seem like you are actually on the field playing the game.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 25's new first-person fielding
Having played a good bit of NFL 2k5 in first person mode lately, I’m down to see other sports try it. NHL had first person fights for a few years early 2010’s, and that’s the last time I can remember in a team sports game.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 25's new first-person fielding
First person gameplay sounds fun, but it makes it so much harder to play on a controller. NFL2k5 probably had the best and most fun one from a controller perspective, unless it’s VR, it’s pretty hard to play. I do hope it’s expanded here because let’s have some fun, but I personally don’t think I’d do more than try it out and then leave it alone after that.Comment

MLB 2K4 (ESPN Major League Baseball) did it. But it's hard to find footage of it.
ok I found some footage. It looked terrible

Re: MLB The Show 25's new first-person fielding
Thanks, I knew I’d learn something! Judging pitch location while hitting looks impossible. You’d probably have to code an automatic slowdown like NFL had for catching. I have enough trouble laying off bad pitches on modern 3rd person cameras!Comment

Re: MLB The Show 25's new first-person fielding
Yeah, when you actually have that POV you're basically just trying to visualize the ball taking a path that looks like you can get a good swing on (since you don't really have home plate as a ball/strike reference point because you won't be looking at it during your swing window). And you don't know what that path is without seeing hundreds of pitches of different types coming in from that viewpoint.
Hence why I said I'm probably a little bit crazy for wanting this.

If they implemented what MVP had with the different colors based on pitch to simulate seeing the seams, that would help. Graphics are much better than back then but still hard to read the seams.Yeah, when you actually have that POV you're basically just trying to visualize the ball taking a path that looks like you can get a good swing on (since you don't really have home plate as a ball/strike reference point because you won't be looking at it during your swing window). Re: MLB The Show 25's new first-person fielding
I'd be more interested in pitching POV rather than hitting
This looks like it'll be fun to mess around with in the beginning, I am unsure how much fun it'd be over the course of a RTTS careerComment

Re: MLB The Show 25's new first-person fielding
I enjoy RTTS and played 2 years of it last year, only stopping because my save was mysteriously erased.
My biggest issue with RTTS is that the other team is programmed to make bad baseball decisions in order to generate more opportunities for your player. This has been the case for several years now.
If you’re a 3B, you’ll see way too many bunts.
If you’re a catcher, too many steals from slow guys you can easily peg out.
If you’re an outfield, lots of guys stretch an extra base where you can throw them out by 45 feet.
Adding these new cutoffs has me worried that we will have even more generated situations with bad decision making.Comment

This is something that I will never, ever use. But, it's cool for the people that want it I guess.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 25's new first-person fielding
I forget how The Show handles save files, but ever since my GTA III save file corrupted once getting 100% (I believe unrelated, but it froze while trying to save, had to restart the PS2, and it never loaded again), I have since created backup saves upon backup saves for all games that I possibly can.
I don't know if PS+ still has the cloud feature, but try and take advantage of that in the future as well for a backup. That has saved me too.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment
