What's the best way for a newb to learn advanced controls?

Hi guys - I know baseball and strategy well, but I am brand new to the MLB series. I've played around with MLB 14 PS4 and its a lot of fun. However I am struggling to understand what all the screen receptacles and markers mean and how all the advanced controls work and the advantage/disadvantage of each.

Is there a comprehensive guide or tutorial online - even if for an older version of MLB that may be useful? I wasn't able to find much. I'm trying to find out the best way to learn everything and the practice modes are really lacking for that. Decent at practicing but don't explain much at all. Likewise there seems to be NO practice whatsoever for fielding and learning on the fly in games is proving frustrating.

Read the online manual and play the game. Reading the online manual is a must though. After that, the more you play, the better you will get. I don't even watch baseball on tv and haven't played an MLB The Show since 07 and I am already pretty decent at the game just from reading the manual and playing the game.

The game manual is in your XMB there is also a strategy guide in the game as well.

You might also want to check out all of the old video tutorials from years past.
