Seven of my players are currently cold as illustrated by the snow flake next to their names on the lineup screen. I play as the lowly Cubs and I'm currently 8-19 to start the year. My team average is near the Mendoza line and I have scored 5 runs over the past 6 games!

How much, and in what ways does being cold affect your hitters? And how do you get them to be not cold?

Here I thought I was cold. My Rockies (MoM player) are on a 6 game losing streak where nothing (pitching, hitting and fielding) is working lately. However as cold as my team is (presently sporting a 27-24 record 7 games out of 1st), I only have a handful of players with the snow flake icon. Here is what I do when a player goes cold. I bench them for at least two games and only put them in as pinch hitters or defensive fielding replacements if the game goes into extra innings and I am desperate. Then usually (not always) they will come out of the cold snap after a few days off. However my catcher Wilin Rossario went cold, I benched him as mentioned above. On his first day back he went 0-3 with 2 walks and his snow flake went away despite not getting a hit (I guess the game factors in walks when determining whether or not a player is cold). However in yesterday's game he went 0-4 (meaning he has not gotten a single hit in well over a week now) and I fully expect the snow flake to return when the team lines up for a game in Philly this evening trying to break this nasty 6 game losing streak of theirs.

I think Cold/Hot is way, way overdone in this game.

When my Locked player was hot, I was hitting a homer when jammed, a homer to the opposite field with ease.

When he got cold, I could not buy a hit.

This is NOT fun.

Please, tone down the Hot/Cold settings!!

When the game got too frustrating for me and went to Dynamic difficulty and tweaked some sliders. Made a huge difference.

When players are cold, sometimes I'll sit them down for a game and see if that helps. But every player is going to go through a cold stretch, that they must play themselves out of. No real trick to getting it to snap.

Don't quite understand the hot/cold thing really. In my RTTS I had a snowflake next to my name and was on a 7 game hitting streak batting around .323. Eventually the icon disappeared but didn't really notice anything from it. Maybe just me.

When the game got too frustrating for me and went to Dynamic difficulty and tweaked some sliders. Made a huge difference.

I completely agree!! I had the same problem with extremely bad cold streaks. I re-started my season w/ Armor and Swords sliders along w/ dynamic difficulty and it made all the difference! Dynamic difficulty is a life saver!

Seems the opposite to me. I don't even pay attention to the cold icons. It's more of a mental thing IMO. You still have to approach your at bats the same. I have hit homers with guys ice cold and k'd 3x with guys who are red hot.

I agree I'm not even convinced there's a direct correlation.

Doesn't it work on a 10-game statline? So if a guy was red hot for the first five games, but 0-for his next 16, YOU'D know dude was ice cold, but theoretically he'd still have the fire icon. The converse could also happen, where dude goes 6-for-11 or something but had been cold prior to that and thus still shows the cold icon going into the next game or whatever.

As for how to get players out of cold streaks ... man, just be patient and smart, draw some walks and get some hits (lol). I mean what other trick could there be?

Fact is probably most every player in the league is going to have a big, fat 0-for-20 along the way. Think positive, like you've gotten some bad runs out of the way and now things can start evening out. I dunno. Effing baseball.

I'm pretty sure the icons are for information only. I don't think they effect ratings or performance in any way.

10 games for hitters.

4 starts for starters.

6 appearances for releivers.

Nothing more; nothing less. I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure this is how it works.

Hot/cold does not affect players. It is a mere informational icon to show you the progress of a player. This is because potential is dynamic so it can help you judge on who to sit, start and move around and also helps with adjusting the lineup.

Also I had this same problem and for me it was because all my players were tired. I did not know low energy meant very low performance. I was averaging scoring about 4-5 runs a game then I had a 11 game patch where I scored a total of 8 runs. This was because all my starters were drained. The I rested them for 2 days and played against Kershaw at home and took him for 6 runs in 4 innings.

First of all, in response to multiple comments about my post #3, I already was using Dynamic difficulty with tweaked sliders.

Second, I monitor the fatigue bar carefully in deciding who to start and who to rest in my season.

Third, with regard to this strange notion that "hot/cold does not affect players," would you like to cite specific and credible evidence for this statement? Why would SCEA put these Icons (hot/cold) in the game if they have no effect? Seems rather inane.

Fourth, a bit more detail about my player. When he was "hot," I hit home runs in six straight games, including two two-homer games. When he became "cold," I hit no homers, and had a stretch when I was hitting .139 over the course of ten games. My concern is based on actual experience, not a hunch.

I don't want to seem arugumentative, either you believe me or you don't and I'll leave it at that.

Hot/Cold is merely a representation of how your player performed very recently statistically. They do have an affect, however, on your player's potential. In the past iterations, a hot player's potential had a chance to increase and likewise, cold player's decrease when the weekly e-mails came in. I haven't franchised yet with this one to see if it is the same or not. This is how the game makes top prospects busts and lower prospects into Mike Piazza and is the tool that is used to emphasize development.

Regarding your examples: the player was hot because he was performing well, not performing well because he was hot but hopefully you can see how it appears the other way around. I will say this, if you didn't get jammed but should have been, taking a look at your difficulty level or sliders is not a bad suggestion and shouldn't be taken it as an insult.
