Tagging up/classic baserunning

Is anyone noticing that when using classic baserunning, tagging up is very unresponsive? When I hit square and down on the dpad, the runner does not move. I have to keep pressing repeatedly. Same thing on second. It is very frustrating, as if it's a medium flyball, that hesitation often leads to outs. L1 works fine and great, but becomes an issue when multiple runners are on. Just wondering if anyone else is dealing with this and had some tips. Should I hold the buttons? Or keep repeatedly tapping? Help!

Yeah I seem to get thrown out nearly every time I attempt tagging, my guy always ends up leaving late. I wish there was a tag up command I could hit while the ball is in the air to instruct the runner to tag up, instead of having to manually time it myself
