    strike percentages

I am noticing the CPU doesn't seem to work the count or try to draw walKs. I am pitching with dynamic and in the past I always used all star so I don't know if that is a factor. I feel like when I miss with a pitch this year it goes down the middle instead of missing off the pLate once in a while and this leads to the cpu swinging more and not taking walks.

    Re: strike percentages

I would try testing out some of the sliders posted here in the forums. I know that with the weaker difficulties you don't get punished as much for missing your spots, especially when it comes to what kind of pitching you are using.

I'm throwing anywhere from 4 to 8 walks a game. Good mix. Just find the right slider set for you.

        Re: strike percentages

I've found that I've been walking 1 to 2 players a game. They do work it from time to time, seems like it might just be the general balance. I've found that if they aren't getting on base via hit, they'll foul and battle to work the walk.

          Re: strike percentages

Yeah I'm having a hard time getting the CPU to not be so aggressive. I'm getting outs but they are all in the field. I'm averaging a very low number of strikeouts, giving up a lot of hits, and inducing a lot of double plays... all because, in my opinion, an extremely high level of aggression by the CPU at the plate.

            Re: strike percentages

Pitching seems excellent to me. Way tighter. That said, I do only use Quick Counts.

I just had a gem with Sabathia where I struck out 10. Then, a dud with Tanaka where he walked 3 and K'd 3 over 5+, giving up 6 runs.

AS was too easy IMO last year. Something about this year just feels right.

                Re: strike percentages

One thing to keep in mind in that in order for a batter to work the count, he needs to expect the pitcher throws quite a few pitches out of the strike zone. When a pitcher is pounding the strike zone, it is a mistake for him to work the count, as doing so only puts him into deeper hole.

In real life (in recent years), only about 45% of all pitches are thrown inside the strike zone. The majority of pitches are not strikes if they are taken...

I think in the game it is still substantially easier to command pitches to be in the strike zone, so unless you throw some of your pitches intentionally outside the zone, you will feel that CPU puts everything in play.

                  Re: strike percentages

I use Meter/All-Star pitching & usually avg about 3 walks given up.

If i'm having problems finding the strike zone the CPU definitely will take the walk more often than not

See for me personally that has been true every year except for this one. With the change to pitching, I find myself throwing a lot more balls this year, and yet the CPU is still swinging at the very first strike I throw.

                      Re: strike percentages

I had been able to draw 3-4 walks a game in the '14 version on All-Star (no slider adjustments) I have been lucky to get 1 or 2 over the course of a few games now in this years.

what pitch style are you using? classic is way harder than meter IMO and you will probably get more cpu walks with a combo of that and the right slider set.

                          Re: strike percentages

A dozen games or so in.

I'm finding that I'm only walking around 2 batters a game. I've had a game where I got a bad outing from a SP (3.2 IP 4BB 0K 5ER with an unearned on a passed ball). Outside of that, I think my walk numbers are low from pounding the zone during Spring Training. When I'm facing a AA skilled batter, I'm extremely aggressive, and I'm only having to pitch around the occasional big hitter. I have the feeling that this will remedy itself as I get into everyday players once the real games start. It'll be time to nibble a little more and my pitch counts and walks will bloat because of it. As it stands right now, I'm at around 66% strikes and a little over 100 pitches for the game.

On the flipside, when I'm hitting, I can't seem to work counts well at all. The pitches that miss, they miss by a lot. But, the CPU is throwing me a ton of strikes. I've only been able to draw a walk or two per game. Even if I take on 0-0, 1-0, 0-1 counts, the computer is laying pitches on the corner. I've been victim a few times a game to the variable strike zones. The CPU has a strike % in the 70's, and I'm only being able to get into the 90's or just past 100 on the pitch count. I'm not sure if this is because of my approach at the plate, or if the computer is seriously just pitching at an unsustainable level against me.
