Do batters "learn" during a game?

Does seeing a larger number of pitches from one pitcher make a batter better offensively? Or is each at bat a new experience.

They do learn your pitches and tendencies as a game goes on. I also believe the higher the difficulty level, the quicker they learn. I might be wrong on that last tidbit though.

In addition to "learning," the pitcher's attributes get some minor reduction when his energy gets lower... once he is "tired" then his attributes get a large hit. So basically it's a combination of learning and also attribute reduction.

I ask this because what a few ML teams are doing this year- automatically taking out their starters once they turn the line-up over twice. The average starter this year has 85 pitches.

Yes... The data have shown that each cycle in batting order, the batting average against noticeably increases. Learning is part of it, but it is also getting used to and the pitcher tiring as well. I think they are being simulated by the game to varying extent already.

What about CPU pitchers during a game? Let's say Kershaw is pitching against me and strikes me out as Jason Heyward. Will Kershaw pitch in a similar way when Heyward comes back around? Or does a pitcher treat each batter as if it's the first time he's seen said batter?

The CPU picks up on all your tendencies whether you are hitting or pitching. If you take the first pitch every time, the ai will notice and start throwing more strikes. If you're prone to chasing low breaking balls with 2 strikes, expect them to come more and more often. If you cant sit back on outside pitches, get used to rolling over all game. And again, I believe the ai picks up quicker on higher difficulties.
