Until I actually get my hands on the game, play some into a franchise I can say I have no idea how it will effect my game or if I will even like it or hate it.
All of that is true, but it's not what you said or what I was responding to. You were talking about how they're going to build on the feature (which is an assumption, however likely). Your response here is a different conversation.

You hear it quite often, especially if the player has a distinct personality. The Bryce Harper/Papelbon thing really blew up. Plus it would be a nice touch with the fictional style that The Show presents in franchise. It doesn't have to be a frequent thing. It was just a nice little suggestion to throw in the game, so it happens every so often.

About impact, that is your assumption. Any such negative will have an effect. If overall decreases, something is being reduced.

The real point is players who are unhappy about their contract can have it affect performance--and nothing you can do until offseason. Until then, the negative effect remains. In my opinion, they should have left that out until putting in ability to negotiate contracts during season.

I don't believe there are many contracts that are restructured in baseball.

I can think of one off the top of my head. Most contract extensions occur during the players arbitration and renewable years and the cpu and human can do that currently.

I am a little worried when contract extensions hit the game that we will see very limited free agent classes because the cpu will sign everyone to below market deals.

I'm actually hoping that is improved in the offseason this year. I usually put contracts on manual and Sim through the exclusive period because players resign for ridiculously low amounts and never hit the market.

Re: New morale features

I liked it in FIFA 13 (I think?). It put a lot of focus on what could otherwise get boring.

I remember one season I had a player who was unhappy because I signed another player that they felt threatened their position on the team. Both got top minutes, and the new guy was doing well. He kept complaining about not being happy, and finally demanded a trade.

I sent him to another team, and was happy to be done with him. Then, every time we played that team, I made sure to just bury as many goals as I could.

Another nice aspect is it prevents you from just stacking a team with top tier talent because you trade for them or otherwise get them. Top guys expect top minutes, so in baseball I would have a tough time getting someone like Carlos Gomez to stay happy if I promised him he would be my starting CF and then he's riding the bench 3/4 of the year.

There is the ability to restructure contracts during season in baseball, and doesn't matter how often it occurs. If Gerrit Cole is unhappy about his contract and it affects his performance in any way, I as GM want to within reason make my best pitcher happy. Now maybe that would include having a conversation with him and discussing what we could do in the offseason. Unfortunately, we cannot discuss such matters with our players in this game.
