AI obsessed with making "shoelace" catches on flyballs?

It seems like to me that 90% of the catches made by the AI on routine flyballs are these weird sideways shoelace-type catches. It looks like the player is doing a Puig impression or lost it in the sun and catches it 2 feet off the ground. What's the deal? Can they not do a normal catch?

I see normal catches a great deal of the time.

I see it a fair amount. Not 90 percent, but it does happen a little too often probably. Every now and then it scares me that my fielder is going to actually lose the ball.

I'd love to see this 90% circus catches...sounds entertaining!

But yeah, most of my pop flies end up plain old, ordinary catches.

Most of those shoelace catches are the CPU misreading flyballs, I know because I noticed those same animations when I misread flyballs too.
