Am I missing something with guess pitch?

I just played a friend h2h on diamond dynasty. I made sure I turned guess pitch off. However, when he was hitting if I threw a high fastball my meter to throw went away and the box blinked red similar to what I think guess pitch does? I asked him what he was doing and he said "just pushing up and hitting bombs" lol. Anyways I know he uses directional hitting because he is of the older generation but what the heck was he doing for my meter go away and box to blink red if he wasn't using guess pitch? As I mentioned he couldn't have used it as it was turned off.

When you play a friend, guess pitch might be available. Take a look a all the settings before you start the next Play a Friend game. I know quick counts is available.

Yea we turned quick counts on when I sent the invite, but guess pitch was off. I made sure as I even tried to guess pitch and it wouldn't let me.
