I don't know about a ton of doubles, and I believe his doubles totals are aided by Fenway being something of a doubles haven.

2012: 20 home doubles, 6 road doubles
2013: 27 home doubles, 11 road doubles
2014: 18 home doubles, 9 road doubles
2015: 27 home doubles, 10 road doubles

You don't need to be fast to hit doubles in Fenway, imo. Anything towards the bullpens or high off the Monster is going to be an almost guaranteed double.

Triples are a speed play, and you can count the number of triples he has in those years on less than one hand. Literally. He has 2. In four years. Fenway isn't too shy about triples either...some years the park factor for triples being as high or higher than the park factor for doubles...and Ortiz has 18 in 20 seasons...

I think a single digit speed rating is warranted.

He's a bit quicker than Bengie Molina so he probably could be more than 1. That's Bengie ' s number.. heck he could be a 0 lol

Re: David Ortiz' Speed

I have been playing with the Red Sox this year and on one of the first games I played with the club once MLB 16 dropped, Ortiz hit the ball into a gap and watching him run to 2nd (he made it) made me think "this is how Babe Ruth must have looked running the bases" what with the new running animations for slower players added to MLB 16 this season.

You could just increase your base runners slider, that will keep all the players speed correct in relation to each other. I read where the average MLB player takes 4.2 to 4.3 to go from home to first. I don't remember who I used, but his speed rating was 49 and he went from crack of the bat to first in 4.3 seconds. He was a right handed batter.

Re: David Ortiz' Speed

Statcast was nice enough to give us an estimate of Ortiz's blazing speed on a once-in-a-blue-moon SB he had earlier this year:

Granted, it's not really relative to what he can do in The Show because he broke it down once there was no throw. He also had a running lead. But it's something, at least.

Re: David Ortiz' Speed

Perhaps this is a bit more practical - full sprint to first beating out a throw (watch the very end for the Home to 1st timing - it's 4.77)

Edit: Wow, that's tough to see...here's the regular page where it's much clearer:
