I play every inning of ST. I enjoy seeing the rest of the 40 man in action, particularly the pitchers with promising stuff that don't have the polish yet to cut it in MLB.

Yeah I agree, playing every game of ST not only allows you to feel out your 40 man, but also allows you to understand the specific nuances of each players hidden triats and figure out who will be potential trade bait

I'm not sure.

But there is at least one aspect of player performance you can only learn by using them.

The most notable being pitching, as their windup animation drives timing on the meter as well as the angle / arc of thrown balls. You can't just look at a pitchers traits and know exactly what you as a player, personally, is going to deliver with that pitcher.

I also think it possible that batter stances may impact timing between swing and the bat hitting the meaty part of the zone, but can't really say for sure. I've always felt some hitters were harder to hit with or easier to hit with all things being equal. But less sure on that than on the pitching ... Where the animation (style) of pitching mechanics most definitely changes outcomes.

I don't know if there's hidden traits...but I've seen unexplained implosions in my carryover especially.

The most striking was Paco Rodriguez. This was under MLB15, but he had 3 very strong seasons enough to get young Paco to 150 saves. Then suddenly, he collapsed. He couldn't get an ERA under 6, stunk in AAA, and his ratings never dropped. I traded him and, last I checked (haven't in a while), he's still stinking...with his awesome on-paper ratings.

Chris Taylor - not quite as striking, but he went from a .280 hitter to a .220 one and had nothing on the ball up until September. It was funny because he hit like 5 HR in April and I was like "why is he hitting so many HR"...then he does almost literally nothing from May to August.

This year, I had...something...with Kolten Wong in my fantasy franchise. He was not playing up to his ratings and when I put Addison Russel at 2B, who had basically the same ratings, he played far better, making plays and effort plays that Wong never would even attempt much...and succeed at even less.

Now, Russell is my 2B solely on...whatever that was. Russell is still doing it at 2B as well.

I don't know what this is/was. I don't know if its my settings, sliders, fairies, youkai...but it happened.

I like to play spring training games. It gives me a chance to try different settings out and also check out the younglings. I use to just play the first 5 innings with my starters. But now I play all innings and even keep a spreadsheet on who will start each day to make sure everyone gets playing time. I also do a pitching schedule and basically map out each inning for spring.

Not sure about the hidden traits but, I have found those guys for whatever reason I play really good with that have low potential and low overall. The same as finding that star player that you just kinda struggle with.........in my world Adam Wainwright is that star player that I struggle with.
