How to steal in RTS

How in the heck do I steal a base in road to the show. It says R2 but I never go

Actually you should use the left stick to steal. R1 to lean or increase lead-off.

Do I just press it up or towards the base?

I believe either way works but I do towards the base.

To make it easier you can hold the stick to the left and when the pitcher attempts a pick off you will automatically dive back.

If you want to steal you can go from left to up.

On a related note, I have been getting the 'showmotion' every time right as a pitcher is about to throw over to the base. Is this normal? Is there a setting that I can change to disable it?

Do you guys have base running on analog or buttons? I can't seem to get it with buttons. When I put on analog I can do it easily but I don't understand how to run the bases with the settings on analog

I can steal with buttons if I'm the only baserunner:

Press R2 and go into Showtime mode so you're in slow motion. It's a challenge to both lead off and enter the mode, so half the time I have a average lead. Wait until the pitcher enters their windup, and press R1. You should get a decent jump or better and have a good chance of stealing the base.

I can't seem to figure out how to do this with other baserunners. There has to be a way to also get the advance runner to steal, but last time I tried this I ended up with two runners on second.
