What's the Deal with 30 Team Control???

I'm new to OS and these online forums, but looking through them the last few days I noticed A LOT of people do 30 team control franchises and get really into it and try to make it perfect.

I've been a baseball gamer since MVP 2005 and switched from Xbox to PS3 in 2012 just for The Show. But I've never considered doing 30 team control. So I guess my question is why is it so popular and what are the benefits of doing it? I read something about creating a more realistic baseball universe but I also enjoy the idea of having my own little baseball universe where things happen independent from real life.

Is this something I should try? How does it work and is there a way to get the benefits of it but still have things like trades still happen without me doing it?

I know that a lot of other people who have never done this might be interested in it, so that's why I created a separate new thread for this.
