Re: Help me make a purchase.

Just a suggestion Yesh, if you want to learn the game while you play, I'd suggest making a Starting Pitcher. Look up pitches and what they do so you have an idea of what kind of a repertoire you want and what kind of a pitcher you want to be (high velocity strikeout pitcher, control guy, etc). Pitching is the game within the game, and trying to hit those changeups without even knowing what they are is going to be mighty frustrating to jump into.

On the other hand, if you just want to smack some balls, I'd suggest either a first baseman or a corner outfielder. They are the least complicated positions on the field.

To add to everyone else,

I would suggest not starting off with your RTTS guy. He will be bad when you first start and it will get very frustrating real soon.

I suggest playing with a very good team with very good players and get a feel for the hitting and pitching in the game.

If you try to jump into the game with a 60 OVR guy, you re not going to have much fun.

How can I start a career mode without using rtts guy? Surely that's my only option?

I sort of disagree about jumping in with a 60ovr. I'm guessing there aren't any shortcuts to improving your ratings other than playing with him and what better way to learn the game than with bad ratings?

can we have multiple rtts saves or just the one, because I'll probably start the game with one player, then by the end of the cycle have a completely different player altogether, but I'm definitely the kind of gamer to charge headfirst into it, then refine my playstyle as I become more accustomed to the game.

You can also purchase RTTS training points to add to your player if you choose.

You can use Player Lock in Franchise mode if you want prior to starting a RttS career. It basically plays the same on the field as RTTS, but you can try a guy like Mike Trout or Corey Seager, high rated guys that you'll have success with while you get a feel for the game.

But with Dynamic difficulty, and even the easiest difficulty setting of Beginner, you should have no problems starting a RttS career, or several of them, and playing your way through the minor leagues.

First, Welcome To The Show !

You can have multiple saves, no problem. Usually, i've at least three saves in RTTS. One infielder, one outfielder and a closer.
If you want to improve your player faster, you can use Stubs. You'll get Stubs while playing but if you preorder you'll have a 11,000 Stubs bonus for free with the Standard Edition.
Check out the OS rosters. Guys here in OS do an outstanding job every year. Really, there aren't other sports game with this quality user-made roster.
Sound Of The Show. You'll love it. You can assign to your player mp3 music files ( batting entrance, HR, cheers and so on ). It's an amazing feature and great bonus in terms of immersion.
Batting practice, batting practice, batting practice ! You can do it even with your created player ( from RTTS menu go to Calendar, press Options, then select Batting Practice ).

Re: Help me make a purchase.

With Dynamic Difficulty, Yesh2K, you'll be just fine starting out with RTTS with any guy you create. I made the transition from 2K too. The Show is deep. You'll enjoy it if you understand even just a little baseball. I'm a very casual fan.
