Re: Official MLB The Show 17 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

6-4 And A Much Needed Day Off

The Astros have played fairly well out of the gate, having gone 6-4 over 10 straight games. An off-day breaks things up as we get ready to play another 10 in a row without a day off.

We had the 18th overall pick, no trades have been made (as of right now), and heres how the 25 man roster looks:

Astros Depth Chart - 2017
  • Catcher
  • Toby Hall (R)
  • Brad Asmus (R)
  • First Base
  • Jim Thome (L)
  • Travis Lee (L)
  • Second Base
  • Homer Bush (R)
  • Third Base
  • Matt Williams (R)
  • Shortstop
  • Nomar Garciapara (R)
  • Jose Vizcaino (S)
  • Left Field
  • Shannon Stewart (R)
  • Center Field
  • Grady Sizemore (L)
  • Jay Payton (R)
  • Right Field
  • Tim Salmon (R)
  • Starting Pitcher
  • Roy Oswalt (R)
  • Rick Reed (R)
  • Chuck Finley (L)
  • Dan Haren (R)
  • Wade Miller (R)
  • Relief Pitcher
  • Brad Lidge (R)
  • Alan Embree (L)
  • Ryan Franklin (R)
  • Mike Mathews (L)
  • Scott Proctor (R)
  • Ryan Dempster (R)
  • Closer
  • Billy Wagner (L)
  • Designated Hitter
  • Tim Raines (S)

Regular Lineup
CF Sizemore (L)
LF Stewart (R)
3B Williams (R)
1B Thome (L)
RF Salmon (R)
SS Garciapara (R)
C Hall (R)
DH Raines (S)
2B Bush (R)

Prospects
CF Josh Hamilton (L) 23/80/A (edited Hamilton's age to 23 after the draft ended)
CP John Rocker (L) 20/79/B
LF Kelly Johnson (L) 23/73/B
SP Clayton Kershaw (L) 19/72/A
RP Pep Harris (R) 24/72/C
SP Josh Towers (R) 24/71/B
C Josh Donaldson (R) 21/66/A
3B Edgardo Alfonzo (R) 23/71/B
SP Homer Bailey (R) 21/61/B
RF Willy Mo Pena (R) 23/67/D

**

Super happy with this team, extremely fun to play with. Only issue / upgrade I see going forward is I may end up trying to package Tim Raines & some others for another left-handed power bat, but who knows?!?

3 Games @ Oakland

The Astros (6-4) open up their second stretch of 10 games against the A's (2-8). Heres the matchups and Oakland's Lineup:

17-9 May 1st

The Astros enter the month of May tied with the Mariners for the best record in the AL West, although the Mariners have the edge due to them being the Stros cryptonite. Heres a look at the stats for the month of April:

May Outlook

May will be an interesting month for the Astros as we prepare for the June 1st Draft. The first 7 games of the month will be the only games we play against AL West Teams. Two inter-league matchups (ATL & MIA) and a four game trip to face the Yankees highlight the month. There are rumblings that a trade might very well be made sooner than later, in order to get another left handed power bat into the lineup.

That being said, the trade may not be to acquire a left handed bat, but instead to free up space for the Stros top prospect, Josh Hamilton to make it to the show.

AL Standings

East: Orioles 14-9
Central: White Sox 15-9
West: Mariners 17-9

Re: Official MLB The Show 17 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

4 Games At Home vs The Rangers

Never one to be conventional, GM Joe Smith sent shockwaves through the league as he swung a deal with the Pirates on the 1st day of May. The Astros acquired 2B Todd Walker and LF Ryan Freel from the Pirates in return for: LF Tim Raines, 3B Edgardo Alfonzo, SS Jose Vizcaino and 1B Travis Lee.

Walker, who was riding the bench blocked by Jorge Cantu in Pittsburg, immediately slots in as the Stros DH, and will provide that Left handed bat the team was seeking. In addition to his DH duties, expect Walker to see some time at 1st, 3rd and 2nd, keeping the Stros infield rested.

Freel was at AAA for the Pirates, but will now see extensive time in the majors, as a utility player and primary pinch runner for the Stros, giving some much needed pinch running ability to a team that was lacking it.

In a corresponding roster move, the Astros have called up utility man Eric Bruntlett. Don't expect significant action from Bruntlett, although he should provide good flexibility.

Re: Official MLB The Show 17 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

Well folks, I can't get enough baseball! Spring training is upon us, and well with my anticipation of the new release of the show, I decided to start up a carry over franchise.

I chose the Mets as my team, and had the 15th overall pick. My first five picks were:
1- 3B Josh Donaldson
2- 1B Cody Bellinger
3- 2B Jonathan Schoop
4- SP Marcus Stroman
5- CF Michael Taylor

After getting through the draft, I decided to turn the scouting onto Auto, although I did end up doing the draft. I then simulated until September 4th, and will be playing all the games from here on out. I felt like this would give me enough time to finish up this season / offseason before the new release of the show. Anyway, heres a look at The Amazins stats up until this point of the season.

**All were signed, although I am planning on changing a few names**

This should be an exciting finish to the season, as the Phillies and Marlins have a 3 game lead on us in the division. Luckily we will be playing the Phils 6 Games, to include the final series of the season, as well as the Marlins 3 Games. As it stands, we are 1 game behind the Giants for the second Wild Card.

** Cody Bellinger leads the NL Rookie Of the Year voting, and Marcus Stroman (our lone All-Star) is sitting at #2 in the Cy Young Race.

Re: Official MLB The Show 17 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

We took 2/3 from the Phillies, on our way to closing the gap in the division. In the first game, JJ Hardy hit a wall scraping grand slam, allowing us to win 5-1. Game 2 was a thriller, with Berlinger & Schoop hitting back to back HR’s to tie the game in the 8th, and Michael Saunders hitting a walk off Pinch hit HR to lead off the 9th for the walk off. The series finale was a disappointment, mainly due to Gavin Floyd showing himself to be a 4 inning pitcher at this point. To that point, if we make the playoffs, Floyd will only be used in long relief.

Next up:

We play 4 games at home against the Reds, who are owners of the worst record in baseball.

I like this about to do this now I'll let y'all know the results.

Using the Mariners BTW and got the 7th pick. Took Mookie Betts with my first pick.
