MLB The Show 17: Is It a Buy?

With MLB The Show 17 hitting stores earlier this week, some OS'ers are inevitably still on the fence about whether this year's game is a buy or not. We gathered three different opinions from OS Staff Writers about whether you should buy the game or not.

Be sure to leave your own thoughts in the comments!

It is a pass for me. Not enough improved. 16 was a great game (as was 15). There is just not enough reason for me to go to 17. Heck, as long as I can play 15 and swap saves between my Vita and my PS4, I may never upgrade!

For me personally the ball physics alone are worth the purchase. Watching the flight of the ball is just tremendous. IT looks great.

Re: MLB The Show 17: Is It a Buy?

If I was an online only player, it has not been a very smooth roll out for those folks and in that case it would be a "Wait and see, possible no buy" decision. But as an offline only player. I am enjoying MLB 17 more than any other MLB The Show release (I've bought the game every year since MLB 12). So for me, no regrets. MLB 17 is a great game, it's a great buy.

It's the best computer baseball game the world has ever seen, that is until MLB 18 is released.

                A buy!

I respectfully disagree with the notion that not enough is improved. As great as The Show has been for years, there are plenty of improvements. The first time the ball comes off the bat you can tell its a different game.

I'm even loving the minor modes. Batting practice is really fun.

For me a definate MUST MUST buy!!

The new ball physics and, tons and animations and the amazing graphical upgrade makes this feel like a whole new game.

If that does not convince you, look at it this way : go a night on the town, you will spend way more money and the next morning it's all gone (ok besides great memories and a hangover).
Paying around 50 bucks for a game that i will be playing for months sounds like a great deal to me.

Even with bugs and other issues, this is a hands down must buy. I also trust the team at Sony San Diego will address the issues some are seeing and as it is fine tuned this already great game will get even better.

Best sports game in years. I also respectfully disagree about the lack of improvements. I believe that how profound the changes are contribute to my statement of it being the best sports title in years.

After a patch or two and rosters, this game is going to be really quite amazing.

                        Exactly how I feel.

I said I wasn't going to buy this year because of Harold Reynolds, but seeing people play it online I realized he isn't as annoying in The Show as he is in real life.

Plus, these ball physics are tremendous. So many more possibilities of hits and plays now that it really opens up the game.

I stopped playing 16 by May. I don't see that happening with 17. The ball physics make THAT much of a difference for me.

Definitely a must buy, one of the best sports games in a good while and I'm not even really a baseball fan to be honest.

When one of the pro's are "the intro video is really well done this year" makes me think there wasn't a lot of improvements from 16. Therefore, no buy for me.
