Must be missing a setting, I can't find where to turn this hideous thing off

You are, but off the top of my head I don't recall exactly where it is in the settings. Try looking under hitting settings?

Franchise SIM is dead. Find your favorite iterations and play it forever. Card games are whats "now" and games will cater in that direction and forget realism.

This setting was removed from The Show 16 and The Show 17. There are currently no plans to bring it back, as an extremely small number of users ever toggled the option on/off. Sorry for the confusion.

Looks like you are right. I looked again closely and found no settings for it. Cannot believe we are stuck with this hideous thing.

Yeah I'm pretty sure the lack of people changing it is because people generally​ don't go through all the settings. Should've not removed the option.
