OP one thing to remember is that you have to know what you've thrown so far and also what the pitch does. Never throw an offspeed high in the zone, so you know right there if he wants it in out or middle, it has to be low. And know your count. If you're up 0-2 and he wants a slider outside, make sure it's off the plate. If it's 3-2 and he wants a slider, you probably want to hit the zone. If Miguel Cabrera is up there, maybe don't give in and know that a walk could be better than him driving in a run.
To add to this, if the catcher wants it up in the zone, as he adjusts for the location, he'll stretch his arm up like when you adjust a sleeve to reach up. Likewise, he'll leave the glove around his knees during the adjustment for a pitch below the knees to bouncing it.

Also, if it's Miguel Cabrera and you're in a 3-ball count, you want that pitch somewhere near Dearborn (as long as it won't walk in the winning run.)

just being pedantic but the catcher will never put down five fingers.

also i tend to stray from this theory quite a bit, instead favoring the idea that:

1= heat
2= curve
3= slide
4= change

Maybe in real life, but not here. Many pitchers in this game have a different pitch than a fastball as their #1, and if you turn on the API (where the pitch suggestion glows yellow) you'll see really quick that the fingers correspond to the face buttons.

Try it with R.A Dickey, who has a knuckler as his X Pitch.

understood, but i've found that totally boring. surely there are ample exceptions, such as when a guy doesn't have a curve (what's #2 then?), but it's way more engaging to treat the signs my way than to just go straight sign-to-button, imo. moreover i haven't noticed any ill effects from calling the 'wrong' pitch.

The Catcher wiggles four fingers for #5.

Re: Catcher's signs

I was wondering this as well. I play on Outfield view (highly underrated cam. Reminds me of Bases Loaded).

But I noticed the signs are kinda weird. When it's your pitcher, it's pretty set in stone, catcher will call a fastball which would be X, then tap his glove inside his leg to pitch accordingly, but the CPU catcher does some really weird signals.

If anyone has anymore insight on this that would be great.

Here is a post all about it:

Its about classic pitching, but the #2 post refers to signs and location.

Franchise SIM is dead. Find your favorite iterations and play it forever. Card games are whats "now" and games will cater in that direction and forget realism.

Just have fun and play :)

Re: Catcher's signs

4 Figners and a shake of the hand while he put’s down 4 fingers = R1 pitch

Also from time to time with a man on first you will see a fist....I take that as a pitch out. I don’t know 100% for sure if that what it means.....but it is fun to pretend LOL.
