CPU Putting a non Catcher in

In franchise mode this has happened to me 3 times. The CPU pinch runs for the catcher and then that players stays in to play catcher. The cool thing is almost everything is a passed ball. But anyone else experience this? CPU not smart enough to sub a back up catcher? Patch fix?

I've seen the cpu put like 1B Mark Reynolds at ss (pinch hitter) and after a pitch, it substitutes someone else come in who plays ss.

      This is an issue.

It doesn't happen that often so long as the roster includes enough catchers, but that is not always guaranteed since CPU isn't smart enough to ensure that it has enough catchers for a team.

I'd check CPU team's roster to see it has enough catchers. If not, a manual solution would be to fix the roster yourself for CPU, until CPU gets smart enough.

I had this happen my last game. Nats pinch ran for Wieters with Drew. Lobaton pinch hit for the pitcher in that inning but rather than double switch Lobaton in, they left Drew in to catch. AI could use some work there.

I've seen it happen in a spring training game. However I have yet to see it in any of my regular season games. But I guess some of you have seen it in regular season games. :/

This is currently ruining my RTTS as a SP. I am in the year 2021 and the #1 starter for the Padres. Their is not a player on the major league roster with catcher as either their primary or secondary position and their are only two catchers in the entire organization. Currently two center fielders are platooning at catcher and every ball is at least dropped if not a passed ball and any base runner is gifted an automatic trip to at least third.

yea this happened in all the past mlb games. the difference is now with the new skill sets required to the positions which makes it more realistic but now past balls and wild pitches happen almost every time where as you could have big papi catching in 16 and you couldn't tell skill wise. this happens a lot in spring training.

Reminds me of my RTTS a couple years ago where my player made the Giants, then they preceded to do the head scratching trade of Buster Posey for Mark Trumbo and some relief pitcher. Then instead of calling up a catcher or signing one they kept putting Nori Aoki at catcher...

In my rtts the Blue Jays had a left handed CF as their everyday 2nd baseman. I mean, I was in 2034, and things in this game start to break down that far in the future.

This happened again in my game last night and it's pretty bad. It needs to be fixed. The most bizarre thing is, my CPU opponents still had their backup catcher available to them on the bench.

In the bottom of the 8th they put a LF position player from the bench into the game at SS. Then it took the guy who was playing SS and had him play catcher. Of the 25 or so pitches that were thrown that inning, this SS now playing catcher caught the ball maybe 5 times and had at least 10 passed balls and the rest of the pitches he could not catch were just dropped balls in front of him. All with a perfectly healthy backup catcher still sitting on their bench. Why?

I'd imagine this gets worse as franchise goes deeper and CPU GM starts messing with rosters not ensuring backup catchers to be around. Lack of positions players are often problem down in minors.
