Tips for hitting Knuckleball?
I for some reason cannot hit the Knuckleball, ever since MLB the show 09 and I still can't. IS there some tips just for the knuckleball? I just got messed up by Stephen Wright and RA Dickey.Tags: None -

There are 2 theories on hitting the knuckleball, unfortunately neither of them works - Charlie Lau
if you want to replicate practicing hitting the knuckler, try eating soup with a fork - thats from Richie Hebner, though not verbatim.
my advice is to take on the first two pitches so you can get a feel for the timing,
then on the 3rd pitch, if the 1st 2 are strikes, let'er rip tater chip. if either of the 1st 2 are balls, you dont HAVE to swing at that 3rd pitch. wait for one that has a little less movement, or better yet, you just might get lucky enough to be served a fastball by one the knuckleball specialist. its just overall better to be patient against knucklers. they are really the only pitchers I get my fair share of walks from.OSFM23 - Building Better Baseball - OSFM23

You can wait forever with the knuckler, so I'd advise to try and go oppo with everything. Then you can wait until the last second before you attempt to make contact."Baseball is the coolest sport because, at any moment, the catcher can stop the game and go tell the pitcher a secret" - Rob FeeComment

One word answer: Wait.
More detailed two word answer: Keep waiting.

Re: Tips for hitting Knuckleball?
I played against the Red Sox the other day and (I can't remember his name) threw literally about 95% knuckleballs. And every single one of them was for a strike.
It was so bad that at one point I legitimately thought that some kind of glitch was happening. All knuckleballs, all for strikes, and I could not buy a hit.

I think this has been an "issue" with knuckleball pitchers in the game for a while.
It's not very difficult to control knuckleball within the strike zone, so they rarely walk any batters, even if you stay patient.
If you check pitcher/batter analysis after the game, it's pretty common for a knuckleballer to throw more than 70 % of pitches for strike, which is much higher compared to the average pitchers.
One of the reasons why I don't enjoy hitting against them. Not much strategy involved.Comment

I remember hearing Derek Jeter discussing this was his philosophy with hitting knucklers, most notably Tim Wakefield, and was his advice for young hitters new to the knuckleball. For some reason that always stuck with me and something I have tried to adopt in The Show. But I'm no Derek JeterComment

Re: Tips for hitting Knuckleball?
In my franchise file, I went up against the Braves and R.A. Dickey.
I used Guess Pitch, set to Classic, to aim for a location without pressing a button. Except for one thing. Even when I got the location right, the game gave me zero indication with a red little reticle that the pitch was going there.
Seriously, I choose left (from the Fish Eye view), it hits dead-center of the left side of the strike zone, and I never get an indication.
This ONLY happens with knuckleballs. Every other pitch, including when he threw a fastball or sinker, gave me the proper indication where it would go if I guessed correctly.
This happened whether I actually predicted a knuckler, or just the location.
I know knuckler pitchers are rare, but come on, this is NUTS. That's just not fair! I even had to double- and triple-check to make sure I had the settings on right, and yep, they were!
Is this a bug, or is it intentional because of the pitch's unpredictable nature?
Either option sucks...and I say this as someone who uses a knuckleballer in his primary RTTS file.
I want fairness.Comment

It's because, if I'm not mistaken, when the pitch is being located, it doesn't randomly break away from the point you throw it (like 2K used to have), it breaks to that point. Heck, I'm not convinced that this whole game is tethered end to end and they just change how stuff gets there.I think this has been an "issue" with knuckleball pitchers in the game for a while.
