A day or two discovering good defensive SS's and power hitting 1B is all you need. Catchers and pitchers take an extra couple of days. Don't discover too many or you get too many good ones ready to step in immediately and undrafted prospects that linger from year to year.
That is really good to know.

I think my last draft only had 5 or 6 A prospects. I'll have to wait until the off-season to be sure but I know none of the guys I drafted are A prospects. Highest was an 89 SP.

This is somewhat of a separate topic but what I do with my draft is "no discovery/no scouting". There are anywhere between 5-10 "blue chip" players that are automatically fully scouted and usually all A potential. The rest of the draft is completely unscouted and I basically draft blind. This fixes a number of the issues with draft:

Too many A and B potential players - This occurs with the discovery feature and scouting them with good scouts

Too many older players in later drafts - This occurs with too much discovery where players are discovered but do not enter the draft and are thus carried over to the next years draft. And then the cycle continues leading to a bunch of 23/24/25 year old in later drafts.

CPU drafting poorly - I have found the CPU sucks at drafting. So I do not scout any players and draft blind. I still generally end up with 2-3 B or higher Pot players and the rest C with this method. This balances out my farm system with the league.

Below are my two drafts so you can see its fairly balanced:

Bspring, do you find that you end up with skills in the wrong positions a lot? Like SS prospects with no speed or arm? That was what I usually got without scouting anything so I do a minimal scouting to address that.

Question boys

I just drafted 10th overall, and I drafted a SP who is a 99 potential, and I believe 74 overall.

Is it common to get a 99. Or did I hit the draft jackpot here??

I recall running into this in 15 but have seen good balance in 16 and even better balance in 17. I have fielding specialists, speed guys, power hitters, you name it. And I haven't seen anything that is necessarily position specific.

Now I could be missing the trend because I really only concentrate on my team. I do look at other teams picks but not super close.

With that being said, I haven't ran into any issues yet.

Re: Franchise Draft: Too many A prospects

Started my franchise over. I fully control 12 teams, 2 from each division. Just completed the 2018 draft. Had scouting set to auto.

Of my teams, i only drafted 1 A potential. That was a 3B that my Padres drafted 1st overall. Only like 6 Bs between the rest of the picks from my teams, rest were Cs and a few Ds. So ive seen a lot of good variation and not to many As. But those Cs have some great hitting stats, defensively is a bit on the below average.

Think starting in 2019 season, ill manual scout. Wont discover but just do individual scouting for players who are already there available

Re: Franchise Draft: Too many A prospects

That seems kind of ridiculous that the devs set it up to where if your scouts discovery is what effects how many A prospects in the draft.

I dont get why they dont just have the draft generate a random amount of A prospects, B's, C, etc each yr. Where some drafts are loaded and some are weak in talent as IRL.

Franchise mode in this game as a whole needs a overhaul, especially in the area of the draft. I thought once the PS4 came out we would really see a improved Franchise mode, due to the PS4 supposedly having so much more power and memory to where they could really make a deep franchise mode, but thats not happened.

I still enjoy the game and franchise mode is all I play, but I am disappointed that Franchise mode hasnt taken a bigger step forward than it has by now. Instead it seems they focus more on gimmick modes, I always felt that MLBTS was the 1 sports game that had a more mature audience, unlike NBA2k, but maybe Im wrong, and Im just getting to old to be playing video games, lol.

Does he have any glaring weaknesses that might turn other teams off? Like a extremely low durability or a low stat in one of the attributes that don't improve (velocity and stamina)? This can turn other teams off a player. If not then yeah I'd say you hit the jackpot.
