Franchise play in the off-season

I want to use the latest OSFM rosters and kinda sim the 2017 season to get to the 2018 off-season. I would play as the White Sox and since they acquired a lot of talent this year, a lot of guys who were on the original OSFM rosters had to get bumped off for new players. I will likely release all their current minor league free agents and export some of the guys that were bumped off throughout the season. I will also pay attention to service time and likely keep Moncada, Giolito, Lopez, and Fulmer in the minors until I get that extra year of control.

Is this how other people like to approach franchise mode in the off-season?
