A Defensive RANGE attribute would be brilliant.

Id love a Range attribute and I suspect this idea would be embraced by the community as s great way to address the current fielding issues.

Too many corner infielders ranging into the outfield. I can accept the rare 3B who can drift into LF and field a pop up BUT as it plays now....with Fielding ability at 0 - even the slowest 1B can literally field fly balls in RF?! Wat?

Hope this suggestion will be considered and applied. Thanks!!

Isn't the ''Reaction'' attribute ''Range''?
Instead of turning a players ''Fielding'' to 0, try lowering his ''Reaction''.
It might not help but maybe it's worth a try.

I have done testing with this and speed and reaction matter when playing the game, to determine range. for sim stats, throw accuracy and fielding matter the most.

While I'm grateful for the suggestions, that's whack that I'd have to compromise running speed on base just to limit crazy range in the field.

the 1st baseman is really usually the only guy that lacks range on the Infield.

You haven't watched the Mets play the past decade, have you?

Re: A Defensive RANGE attribute would be brilliant.

I think currently the idea is to let Running Speed and Reaction attributes to cover the fielding range. For outfielders, both are important but Speed would matter more due to the sheer amount of ground coverage they need, but for infielders Reaction matters more since they usually don't run an extended distance to get to the ball.

Since I don't think the developers are so inclined to totally overhaul the current player attribute system (too much have been invested, and now that online modes are totally dependent on it), it's more likely that improvement on fielding range gets implemented as some sort of extension to the current system.

What could that be? I have no idea, but other than adjusting fielder reaction and route to the ball (and certain animations that only trigger for better fielders), I am not sure what the game can do to improve the system.

But I do agree that the difference in fielding range among players, especially for infielders, is not very well executed right now. I don't see a whole a lot of differences showing up in stats like range factors among players right now.
