    Release Date

So if I'm looking at this right, the release date for the game is the same as Opening day?

Why so late? Madden & NBA 2k are able to release the game weeks in advance. Which honestly is much preferred. It allows me to get a good chunk of my season done before the real season begins. Any chance this will ever move up?

Since '14 the release date has been at the end of March

    2014 released April 1st
    2015 released March 31st
    2016 released March 29th
    2017 released March 28th
2018 releasing March 27th (March 23rd with early access for preordering from Gamestop, Best Buy, Walmart, Target, or the Playstation Store)

Unless they decide to cut 4 weeks of production out one year, I don't foresee this ever moving back to the first part of March.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Yea, I remember when they moved it back. But this year with the season starting a few days earlier the release date is literally only one day before opening day. Nba2k releases six weeks before the season starts. Madden also releases a few weeks. Honestly I might not get the game just cause with the season starting starting right then I know I won't have enough time to play a full season. The other games I can because I can get enough of a headstart before the season starts to be able to play an entire season.

As far as I know, I don't really follow NBA 2K nor Madden since I don't play them, they have been operating with this release window for a long time and haven't had to push it back, thus allowing them a full development cycle.

I too wish it released at the start of Spring Training like it did before, but I also don't want them to cut out 4 weeks of production either.

Atleast personally I wish they would cut two weeks each of the next two years and gradually bring it up to the end of February.

Also Opening Day is earlier than it's ever been due to the CBA requiring more day's off throughout the season.

              That would work!

Both NBA2K and Madden have MUCH larger programming teams. Moving up a console generation was death to the old release schedule.

It's actually a good thing because we will get a roster update out with missing players out earlier this year

Wouldn't that mean you start production 4 weeks earlier? I too preferred the early March release. But from an advertising and interest standpoint, they get more bang for the buck releasing with regular season start date. Trust me if the regular season started end of Feb that is when you would have the game.

                        Just to make it simple:

52 weeks in a year. If you develop for 52 weeks and release the game on March 27th, in order to release the game on March 1st the next year, you would need to cut production to 48/49 weeks, thus losing 3/4 weeks of production.

To go back to an earlier release, they would have to at some point sacrifice time and work with a shorter development cycle.

                          Re: Release Date

If I'm not mistaken MLB asked SCEA to release The Show closer to Opening Day each year. Been that way since MLB 14.

Before 14 we used to get the game in early March. We would still have 2-3 weeks left of Spring Training when the game would release.

Madden and 2K aren't under that same type of restriction. At least not yet anyways.

                            Re: Release Date

I think the biggest issue with it being later is, spring training is over by the. I mean it was good to do roster work and play spring training and set sliders in that month waiting for the season to start. now BANG we have to do all that now as soon as the season starts, when I like to actually watch some baseball games it sort of cuts into that time.

Yes it was MLB 14 but keep in mind that was the year the PS4 version came out in May. it seems because that put them a month or so behind it was hard to get back to early march schedule.

SCEA needs as much time as possible to get this game right and playable at launch. Every year, the game is released and is not ready. We end up waiting until at least May/June until the game is good. Especially with last years hitting debacle and the online play I’m hopeful that more time serves the game and everyone well.
