I always used meter until they completely ruined it by making it random much more of the time. Have to use analog now. The amount of perfect releases that went nowhere near where I was aiming with meter got to be too much.

Classic
1. Ratings
2. Clean screen
3. Watching a meter over and over gets old to me

Analog, closest to gesture pitching from MLB 2K. It is easier to spot pitches, but turning control to 0 and making the AI batters good keeps my walks pretty decent.

Ramone said somewhere it should be harder to throw strikes this year, which should be great news for me.

I do classic on HOF. Sometimes go analog if I actually go online. I just have problems on certain locations due to how human thumbs are located. Classic is just what I'm most comfortable with. To me, it helps with not being good with a guy because he has a funky delivery. I used to have to trade certain guys off my team back in the day because I sucked with their wind up. I always enjoy threads like this...

Re: What Pitching Options do you use and why?

I'm thinking more and more about switching to classic pitching this year, because I'm reading that it goes off of pitchers ratings. I fired up 17 last night and messed around with classic just to see if I could stare getting the hang of it before Friday. I used Sabathia since he's kind of middle of the road when it comes to ratings. It felt like I was all over the place. When I did make a good pitch, I got lit up. Is there any trick to classic? Do you release the button somewhere during the wind up, or do you hold the x button down until the ball is thrown?

OK....this is something I posted in Armor's thread last year and he put in the OP of his slider set....this is a super-basic overview....

When pitching in classic, you have about a 1 second time period before you get the controller vibration (i.e. max-effort). The following are my observations...

Max effort pitches (holding the button down till the vibration) result in the following:
  • More velocity
  • Less control
  • A sharper break on breaking pitches
  • Pitches tend to rise more
Minimum effort pitches (tapping the button) results in the following:
  • Less velocity
  • Better control
  • "Loopier" breaking balls (especially curves/sliders
  • Pitches sink more (due to lower velo) - changeups will pretty constantly wind up in the dirt
In many cases, an "intermediate" duration is optimal. However, you can vary this from pitch to pitch (i.e. like a pitcher adding/subtracting from the speed of the pitch). This is a tremendous way to keep hitters off-balance to help to avoid them getting solid contact/timing.
