MLB The Show 18 standard PS4 performance

Hi there fellow OS'ers

I'm looking at getting MLB The Show 18, but I have a quick question.

In previous games, more noticeably in 17 and 16, I found that playing on a standard PS4, on 1080P mode, cutscenes in games (especially on split screens showing two players close up) suffered from big framerate drops.

On 18 is this still the case? To solve it before I had to bump the resolution down to 720p (as suggested by another user here), as for me, smoother gameplay is more important than visuals.

Can anyone comment on what your experience is like with 18 in the framerate department? I love playing full games, with good audio and getting the full broadcast experience, I find that framerate issues really take me out of that.

Honestly the cut scenes look great on standard ps4. I'm having issues with frame rate during gameplay actually.

This is one of the reasons I still play 15. I was thinking about 17 but am still on the fence. I play season mode.

The same for me. Cutscenes are fine. I have frame rate issues when the camera spins around after the ball is hit by the batter. That‘s why I have decided to trade in my standard PS4 slim for a Pro today because I have issues with a lot of newer games lately.

Yes. At least this is what the Gamestop employee told me. I will get it on April 7th as this is a Gamestop offer here in Germany to trade your standard model in for the pro.

last year when i found out that the show ran at 60fps on the pro I immediately bought one, haha. Having this game play as smooth as it does now is what i've always wanted.

Strange. A real shame. It feels like they're making games perform worse to tempt us all into upgrading to a Pro! They're not... But it feels that way, a lot of newer games I find just don't run that well. And as I don't have a 4k TV, or much money, I find it hard to justify buying a new PS4 just so I get a better framerate during some games. PS5 will be out soon lol...

I'll hold off on 18 until either there's a patch that makes it better (the latest update has more people complaining about framerate) or I get a Pro.

I have felt the same way but it annoyed me too much that I had to take a hit in performace lately. I wouldn‘t have considered a Pro if there hasn‘t been that offer to trade it in for the standard and 99€. I was on the edge because I see a PS5 coming.

As I get the Pro next week I‘ve played a bit on my slim yesterday and I had a lot of stuttering and short freezes while batting in The Show 18 especially on foul balls it behind the catcher as the camera turns quickly. I hope this will get better either via patch or the new console.

I thought it played fairly well on the standard PS4. I upgraded to a Pro last night and I now see that I have been gaming like a pleb for a long time. Balanced is a whole new world with that frame rate... Wow!

I have also got a Pro and I am on Full HD 1080p TV. Should I use Balanced or Faster?

My wife got me the standard 1tb edition this past Friday with the game and I've really not noticed any framerate drops, the occasional stutter? Yes

I've only gotten a 5 or 6 games in though and I'm sure certain stadiums are more taxing than others though. I've not touched any settings either by the way, it's just as it was when it came out of the box.

Either one is fine but here are the differences. Faster should lock in game play at 60fps (frames per second) while balanced should hold somewhere between 30-60fps with a tiny bit of a graphical increase, mainly noticeable on the shadows over home plate.

stadiums were definitely a factor back in the ps3 days and iirc the early ps4 days. i used to play games at tropicana field or the metrodome because domed stadiums boosted the framerate by 15+
