I haven't seen an appreciation thread for this yet, but the game has always had an issue with framerate hiccups, especially during transitions from replays back into gameplay, camera cuts, during pitches, etc. I would always do the big install and would still always have performance issues. It was such a problem for me that after a while I would turn off the broadcast gameplay style just to avoid the hiccups, as they would occasionally make the game freeze for me.

I play on a regular PS4 (not a pro) and it is incredibly satisfying to see the game finally run at a consistent framerate, with zero hiccups. Seeing smooth instant replays with smooth transitions back to gameplay is such a relief because it has always bothered me, ever since I started playing with The Show 07.

Would you go as far as saying that the game is playing close to 60FPS on the regular PS4?

Honestly not sure what you're talking about. I'm on regular ps4, and maybe my experience is a rarity, but the games frame rate and smoothness is straight trash. Like it hasn't been optimised at all. Stuttering while pitching, fielding, and batting. Hitches and overall inconsistent frame rate that I'm surprised came with a AAA title release. The cutscenes are great but the during gameplay it's the worst I've experienced during this series.

Hopefully they patch it soon, because it has made playing this game incredibly frustrating.

I'm on an old school PS4 as well and I agree wholeheartedly with the OP. I think a huge part of what makes the presentation really shine this year is the fact that all the transitions are pretty smooth, just like on a real MLB broadcast. My only small nitpick is I wish they could do crisper transitions from the outside the stadium shots before an inning - there's a bit of a lag while it loads up that makes it look kinda fake.

Oh, and I'm playing the downloaded version.

Hmm then maybe it's my disc version. Idk though it's not like it's 2005 and bad disc installs are a thing anymore.

My console has actually been running much quieter than with last year's game that I had on disc. So, possibly?

Wait until you guys see 18 running on the Pro... oh man.

It took awhile, but it seems we're finally back to PS3-era frame rate performance with The Show, at least on the Pro.

Disc vs. digital should not make a difference as the game is fully installed to the console hard drive whether you have a disc or not.

I’m seeing the same thing as you sometimes, mainly when I am pitching. I think it happens when I try to start pitching really quick in dd games against the cpu that I am up big against. Is that where you’re seeing it?
