    Base running

Anyone else having base running issues?

When I use auto, the runners just stand there after a base hit.

When I use assist, they’re all over the place I have hardly any control.

I’m wondering if maybe my controller is messed up. I’m not seeing anyone else complaining so I’m guessing I’m the only one.

    Re: Base running

I have a pretty nice mix of auto/manual going right now. I have it set to auto, but I take control when I feel the CPU isn't being aggressive enough. The only issue I've had is my baserunners taking off on "wild pitches" that weren't that wild and getting thrown out. I haven't experienced them standing still after a base hit.

BTW, what do you mean by not having control on assist? Don't you manually control all the baserunners on that setting?

I have it on auto I am hopless with it on assist I always forget to run or mess things up

the issues with Auto is the CPU will take off and steal on it's own, I want it on auto with making that choice on my own so the dumb CPU trys to steal at a stupid time. we used to have this option about 4 years ago and they changed it all

I find sometimes too the CPU can be too agressive set on auto and try and run to home and be caught out about halfway to the home plate in some cases, where I think what the hell are you doing?

Right, on auto, they don’t move, and on assist, they are really unresponsive. Seem to do they’re own thing. Like runners on first and second, guy hits a fly ball, guy on second goes back to tag up, I send him to third after the catch, he’s safe. The guy from First meanwhile, is standing in no mans land between first and second and gets thrown out by the third basemen after the play at third.

Also , had it on auto, runners on first and second, batter hits a single, runners on base just stand there waiting for me to control them, outfielder throws to the base for the force out, on a single. This happens all the time on my games.

I can't say I have had this issue with auto and I have had a lot of games.

you sure your not bumping L1 and leaving him stranded? L1 sends all runners

One thing I NEVER NEVER see is someone tagging from 1st to 2nd base, I know it is a rare thing in the real game, but I never see it happen because the runner always runs halfway and runs back, so in that case if I hit a huge deep fly ball, that I know will be caught I have to remember to send the runner back to 1st so that he can tag to 2nd, not a easy thing to do it almost never happens

            Re: Base running

I was actually seeking some advice directly related to Base Stealing but because I'm a noob it won't start my own threads yet. I've never played the game before so still learning some of the basics, but I still haven't stolen a base successfully despite have Dee Gordon & Harold Reynolds on 99 speed. I'm obviously doing something wrong.

I have base running on Auto but my understanding is that you can still instruct to steal by pressing L2 along with the left analog. It seems that my guys go heaps late and don't even come close to being successful. I've tried pressing in advance of the pitcher and once the pitch has been thrown and same results.

Any tips on what I might be doing wrong would be much appreciated (and sorry if this is hijacking your thread - but kinda related to base-running in general. I'll be on Auto for a while I think, haha.

            Cheers

I'm 0 for 6 stealing bases, using Delino Deshields on all of those but 1. I play with classic baserunning legend difficulty Mike Lowe Sliders & of course OSFM roster.

Any suggestions/ advice on stealing 2nd base, bring it on.
Also, with a runner on 1st & 3rd, what do I do to keep the runner at 3rd from trying to take home as I try to steel or hit & run?

See, I'm wondering if something is wrong with my controller. On auto baserunning, say I have runners on first and second, I hit a single, those runners just stand between first and second and don't move, and wait for me to control them.

I actually like that it's more balanced this year. Sometimes I am successful and sometimes I get thrown out. Last year I was able to basically steal at will

I'm trying very hard to master base running in this game, but I hate the control options. Seriously, this is just another area in which 2K just nailed an important aspect of gameplay, and I wish SDS would adopt it.

I'm using the method in which I point the LS at the runner I want to control and then hit a button for the base I want him to run to. I have improved, but I need to keep working at it.

With 2K, you used the equivalent of L1 and R1 to advance or retreat all baserunners. You use L2 and R2 to advance and retreat all baserunners. Hit the trigger or bumper once for every base you want to go to.

You use the A button to toggle between baserunners if they need separate instructions. You quickly get a feel for how to select and move runners around. It's the best system I've used for any baseball game, ever.

I have no issues with The Shows base running system as it’s designed. I’m just saying for whatever reason mine is not working in 18.

I think AUTO works well. I do try to remember, with a run on first, to retreated that runner back to the bag on real deep flyballs in case I want to advance him to second, other than that I don't see a thing that makes me groan. You do have some control on AUTO.

I would like to see perhaps a double tap on one of the shoulder buttons to over ride any steals that the AI might be thinking of, other than that.....

My biggest base running problem is the same crap from last year. Guys sliding into third on singles that could easily score runs. I’ve only played 6 full Play Now games (just got the game finally) and this sliding into third crap has already cost me 4 runs and lost me 2 games. It started happening last year and I really hoped they addressed it but alas.. Another year of being extremely frustrated by this. I think last year I lost like 60-70 runs due to this if I added them all up. As well as probably 20-25 games.
