I'm ready for a complete fielding overhaul for this game
The animations and fielding mechanics within this series are getting quite stale, and are definitely pretty long in the tooth. I would love to see fielding be more interactive and provide a better experience for the user.
Starting with getting rid of preloading throws. While it certainly makes sense on double play transitions and in other circumstances, it doesn't feel like it belongs in a baseball game.
I miss how other baseball games used to use mechanics where you had to set your feet and get your weight transferred in order to make a strong throw, but also the throw was pressure sensitive and you wouldn't release the ball until you've depressed the corresponding button as to where to throw the ball.
In Show fashion, this should be an optional function with the preloading still being available in the settings for people who wish to use that.
Also, there should be more user input and reaction on catching balls and applying tags. If there is a short hop I should have to try and flick stick to perform a stab or swipe on the ball. And then I should also have to use that stick to perform a manual tag on the baserunner. Perhaps by swiping or holding the direction which I would like to attempt a tag.
As it stands now, I often feel like I am just watching the game play out with minimal involvement, even though I have everything set to manual.
I know that SCEA has been focused on making fielding improved and being a more integral part of the series, and that is welcomed, but I feel like there is a long way to go and that other games in the past have really implemented better fielding play within their games.
