Franchise pitcher confidence question

Does anyone know if you can tell if the pitchers confidence is down prior to bringing them into a game I just lost a game in the bottom of the ninth because I brought my closer in only to find he had 0 confidence and going to the mound doesn't help. I would love to have known this prior to the inning.

I dont think there is a way to know, except to make mental notes about how he was doing his last time out. I think low confidence can stick with them if they have bad outings. I know last year i had to move my own 8th inning setup guy out of that role for a while, because of that. I started using him in low-risk situations, like blowouts, etc to get his confidence back up, then he finally settled back into his lights-out 8th inning role again.
