Overcoming slumps.

I'm extremely patient, work counts, make, "good," contact, etc., but I have a few players that have just sucked for me all year and haven't been able to do anything consistently even for a couple games. I just don't even know how to get them to hit at all, it's so bizarre and sometimes frustrating. Even when I make, "good," contact, I don't get any sort of result with these players. I'm just curious if you guys have any similar experiences with specific players and if so, how do you overcome them?

Right now I'm 103 games into my 2018 season and here's my season-long slumpers...

Javier Baez: Season average is .215 and he has only 3 hits in his last 24 at bats (.125 average).
Addison Russell: Season average is .232 and he is 6-for-27 lately (.222). He's my best producing, "slumper."
Jason Heyward: .226 season average and he has 6 hits in his last 38 at-bats for a whopping .157 average.
Ben Zobrist: .228 on the year and 2 hits in his last 18 at-bats (.111 average).

I just CANNOT get hits with these guys.

Sometimes guys have off years. Stephen Piscotty for me last year hit in the .240's and this year, a few days before the All-Star break he's hitting nearly .300. Just happens.

Only thing I would suggest is that if they have options left, send them to AAA and see if that doesn't get them out of their funk. I sent Grichuk and Wisdom down this year as they are struggling terribly. Grichuk has come back up but nothing has changed and Wisdom is still down there.

They probably have some options I’m sure but I just can’t justify sending any of them down. Heyward is the highest paid player in Cubs history, Baez still hits the occasional bomb and can play anywhere, Russell is still my shortstop and Zobrist is a switch hitting veteran. I’d be perfectly happy with them hitting in the .240’s.

this year I tweaked batting stances ever so slightly whenever I noticed someone in a prolonged slump. Danny Valencia & Mark Trumbo are a couple of 'em that leap to mind. also, probably because I use dynamic difficulty, I dont experience a whole lot of slumps anyways.

I'd point you over to my directional hitting guide and tell you to change your approach with those players, but I think we've had this conversation before.

I really haven’t changed anything at all in regards to my approach at the plate but entering September my team average is now on the top 10 at .265 and my on-base percentage is around 5th in the league. It’s all about persistence I guess. The ebb and flow of the season.
