Crazy end of Franchise Regular Season
For the 3rd consecutive year, I've played all 162 games.
2016 - Brewers, dominated regular season, won world series in 7
2017 - Braves, dominated regular season, overcame 3-1 deficit to defeat Cleveland
2018 - Rangers, up and down regular season. On the last day, it came down to 3 teams. Me, the division rival Angels, and the Yankees.
THE SITUATION
All 3 teams were guaranteed AT LEAST a wildcard.
The Angels led the division over me by 1 game. The Yankees held the exact record, but hold the head to head.
THE RESULT
With the Angels and Yankees both losing, with a Victory, I would force a tiebreaker for the Division Crown the following day. With a loss, I would be on the road against the Yankees in the Wild Card.
Down 1-4 in the 9th, with one out, I hit a solo home run.
2-4
Next came a hit-by-pitch, followed by a walk to my home run leader. Up to bat, my 9 hole left fielder, who I subbed into the game in the 6th since he has more offense than his replacement.
He homered. I took the lead 5-4. Fast forward the bottom half.
With one out, runners on 2nd and 3rd, Dee Gordon tries to bunt, but pops it up. I walk the next hitter. So its Nelson Cruz, up to bat, bases loaded, 2 outs. He smacks a rocket to center field.....juuuust in reach of my fielder.
With that, the tiebreaker is set. The Winner is the division winner. The loser goes to the wild card game.
I've never really had anything like this happen, especially in a MLB game where records can be much more varied compared to NFL.
UPDATE
The game didn't have any mention it was a tiebreaker..but Matt did announce I was the AL West Champion once the game was over.
