Was just wondering, after I play through a season in MTO, does it turn into franchise mode?

I thought I read this somewhere a while back and I’ve been trying to look for that article, but can’t find it.

You're given the choice to restart, or to move to franchise after the year ends (whether you win the series or not)

Another quick question. I know you have to be online to receive the rewards, but is that for the whole length of the season or just at the end?
