Secondary positions for drafted players.

I just noticed something today and I hope itís not an issue. If it is, itís resolvable but would take some editing.

During the scouting period prior to the draft I always checked what secondary positions prospects could play. For the most part it looked pretty realistic. Lots of guys that could play any outfield position, some guys that can only play corner infield, etc.

However, after the draft I noticed on the screen where you sign your draft picks that none of them have secondary positions. I know these players are not available for rosters until the following season but Iím assuming (or maybe I should say hopeful) that all the secondary positions will be restored.

Does anyone know if this is the case?

Yeah. After the season when they join your team, they'll have their secondary positions.

From what I remember seeing, their secondary positions can often change, too. What I see on their draft profile doesnít always match what they end up with. Iím almost positive Iíve seen different secondary positions for guys if I sim to the offseason, reload, and sim again. So I never pay attention to what secondary positions show up for prospects when considering the draft.

(Could be totally wrong on that, though.)

Anyone know if pitchers acquire additional pitches after being drafted or coming up through the minors?

Not 100% sure post draft (this year), but they definitely don't develop any in the minors.

If I've drafted a high potential 3 pitch guy, I'll either add a mediocre 4th pitch, or he'll end up in the bullpen.

They do not and rarely do they increase in velocity or control. I will typically add a 4th pitch to any starter drafted across the league to make it more realistic.

Just did a quick test to see if my memory was correct.

Yep.

Three position players drafted with ďnoneĒ listed as secondary positions.

Simmed through the season and saved after the postseason ended. First sim into the offseason, secondary positions were 1B, none, and 2B/3B. Tried again and got RF, 3B, and 2B/3B.

So if secondary positions are a draft consideration, know that they could change by the time a guy is actually on your roster.

I had two very high potential pitchers that I scouted that only threw three pitches (two of them fastballs). I passed on both of them for that reason alone.
