Playoff Rosters

Is the glitch still int he game that whoever is on your 25 man roster on Sept 1 means it's your playoff roster?

What about people who are injured but will return in middle of September?

All notes and help to how to figure this out would be appreciated. I got one week before I hit September!

I believe that's the case. It has been in the past at least. I always make sure to switch from an 8 man bullpen to 7 (even if someone gets hurt, I'll typically only need a few arms in playoff games), and call up some sort of super-utility player that can play anywhere just in case.

I’m 99% sure it’s the same as it’s been in years past. I recall seeing it mentioned in the forums earlier

I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

CB I think indicated it still is the case.
If on IL these players will be eligible.
If you want to expand the list, play through the last minor league game but don't advance. Bring up the players on your 40 man you want to have playoff eligible (your MLB roster will be greater than 25 men at this point). When you advance these players will be eligible for your playoff roster. Then just send them back down.

BUT (dot dot dot) you may want to do a save of August 30 in case this doesn't work this year.

So on Aug 31. Have my 25 man roster set, then add whoever I want for playoff roster up to MLB. Sim to Sept 1 and everything gonna be gucci

In theory yes. It has worked for me in 17, someone last year described doing this in 18. When on Sept 1 you'll then need to send players down (to get back down to your 25 man for Sept 1 until your minor league teams are out of playoffs or regular season is done). THe only downside are players in minors who are out of options that you want to send back down, they could get claimed. Since I control all 30 teams and do this for all the possible playoff teams I don't worry about those out of options since I won't claim anyone who get send down for this workaround. Again, please make an August 30 save just to be safe.

                Re: Playoff Rosters

                Re: Playoff Rosters

The game says in the transaction handbook that from September 1st through the end of the regular season the roster expands to 40 men and the following is directly from MLB.com about how it works in real life.

Postseason Roster Rules & Eligibility

Any player who is on the 40-man roster or 60-day injured list as of 11:59 p.m. ET on Aug. 31 is eligible for the postseason.
Those on the restricted list at that point are also eligible if they haven't been suspended for performance-enhancing drugs during that season. (All players who have served a suspension for PEDs in a given season are ineligible for postseason play that year.)

A player who doesn't meet said criteria for postseason eligibility can still be added to a team's roster in the postseason via petition to the Commissioner's Office if the player was in the organization on Aug. 31 and is replacing someone who is on the injured list and has served the minimum amount of time required for activation. (For example, a player on the 10-day injured list who has been on it for at least 10 days, or a player who has been on the 60-day injured list for at least 60 days.) Players who are acquired in September or after are ineligible.

                Postseason roster rules

Teams submit a 25-man roster prior to each round of the postseason comprised of postseason-eligible players. A club may request permission from the Commissioner's Office to replace a player who is injured during the course of a series, but that player is then ineligible for the rest of that round and the subsequent round, if there is one. A pitcher may be replaced only by another pitcher, and a position player only by another position player.
Teams carry extra players throughout the postseason in the event of injuries, and those players, as well as players on the injured list, can be in the dugout during games, within reason.

So If I'm understanding the real life rules correctly then you can pick 25 men from the 40 man roster as you wish during each round of the playoffs, if their eligible. I don't see why the game wouldn't follow the same set of rules. I've never made it to the playoffs in the game, so I don't know, but has anyone ever tried picking different people from the 40 man that weren't on the 25 man roster after the first round of the playoffs?

Yes I have in 17 and I believe it still works the same way and no I was unable to add a player who wasn't listed as playoff eligible by being on the MLB roster in the game on August 31 as the calendar rolls into September. This is why we use the workarounds. We all want the game to use the real MLB rule but it doesn't and hasn't for years.

In my 30 team control franchise, if I have roster control set to auto will it automatically take care of the September call ups properly for the 40 man roster?

                      Re: Playoff Rosters

In the game, to be eligible for the playoff roster a player must be on the 25-man roster before you advance to Sept. 1. If they're not, they're not eligible. You can check the Contract page for each player to see his eligibility. After I played my game on Aug. 31, I set up my playoff roster and then advanced to Sept. 1.

I have injuries off, so I can't check that, but I assume players on the DL are eligible.

I'm doing single-player control with everything set to manual, but the CPU automatically called up my AA guys when their season ended. My AAA team is still in the playoffs. So I would assume players will automatically be called up when their minor-league seasons are done.

Yes they should call up players when available for the 40 man roster expansion after the minor league teams are done. However they won't call up additional players to have them playoff eligible through the work around. Yes if a player is on the DL, he is eligible for the playoffs if on it August 31. That's another trick I used: promote injured players on the 40 man to the majors through activate, move to MLB, then put back on the DL. For those with 30 team control it is a bit of a pain to add players available for the CPU but can be worth it. A few years ago I didn't do this and the Dodgers only had one eligible catcher. I had to edit Justin Turner to catcher as a back up position.

                          Help!

Didi and Sanchez just came off of IL and are healthy for the WS but I can’t add them to my roster. They show they’re on MLB but not the 40 man. When I go to player options it only gives me sort / edit player / release player / remove from playoff roster / cancel

It said I could add them to my lineup in between series if I wasn’t eliminated. Couldn’t add Didi before the ALCS for some reason.

They’re both listed on IL as NO INJURY

Really want these players back before I face the Dodgers

There's something screwy about players on the IL during the playoffs that doesn't translate well in the game. Once I got my workaround done so I had more players eligible, when a player's time on the DL is up, I activate him even if still hurt and stash him in AAA during the playoffs until between the series to add him. I've had players who were on DL when playoffs started that I couldn't seem to get onto the playoff roster when he comes off. Not sure how to work around this when it comes up.

It’s definitely strange. Aaron Hicks was on the 60 day just like the other two and was put on the AAA team and I was able to add him to the Yanks lineup.

I’m about to turn injuries off and see if that resets it. If not, I’ll just have to play the series without them.
