MLB The Show 20 on PS5

I know SDS hasn't said if they are going to enhance 20 on the PS5, and my initial thoughts are they probably won't, but I'm really hoping that the game will run alot more smooth on the new console. I'd love to see no frame rate drops, especially if running the game on balanced mode. In an ideal world, it would run at 4k 60fps, but I'm not going to get my hopes up! What do y'all think? Do you think the new hardware is going to run MLB 20 The Show better? I can't wait to test it out in November!

If the 4k mode is rendered at 60fps on PS5 with the current platform, the first year may be acceptable...without any major overhaul. Expectations are going to be high nonetheless coming out of the gate! #getyourtoddlerstobedearlier

All I ask is lag-free menus in the Edit/Create Player menu. That should at least be feasible.

So, I have a regular PS4, NOT the Pro version. Currently playing on a 1440p 144hz monitor. I only bought my current PS4 to play MLB. Everything else I play on PC.

Would I benefit at all on MLB 20 as far as graphics/performance if I get the PS5 at launch? Or am I better off just waiting til 21 is released to pickup the next-gen console?

This is pure guesswork, but I'm guessing either 60 fps 1440p with minimums in the 50s, or ray tracing. It won't be both, at least not at the same time.

This is pure extrapolation and guesswork. We'll know more when the card that is in the PS5 gets officially announced in late October. I do have this gut feeling that RDNA2 will be good but you always have to temper that expectation.

On the plus side, it's nice to see a console generation launch with brand spanking new graphics hardware. That alone makes RDNA2 exciting. Sorry, big tech buff here.

Well I have some solid news at least. PS5 is listed on Amazon now, and they include a picture of the box. There are two resolution stickers. One says 8K. The other says 4K, with 120 printed under it, implying 120 hrz.

TO BE CLEAR: This merely indicates the output the console is capable of, not the resolutions and framerates that games will actually run at. I very much doubt that MLB the Show willl be running at 4K 120 hrz. However this is the first real confirmation that the PS5 will get rid of the 60fps cap the PS4 had.

I'd be ecstatic if they could include a stadium creator and on a player's info page, not replace team names with TOT if a player is traded during the season.

Beyond that, improving the draft process would be great (not expecting this). Make something out of the off-season so it's more lively.

lets be honest here, mlb 20 on ps5 probably wont be any different than what we currently have on ps4, the next iteration(the show 21) may have some graphical improvements. BUT usually it takes a few years before the consoles hardware starts to show its stuff based on the development of the dev teams.

take the NHL series for example. when they transfered from ps3 to ps4 they pretty much gutted the entire game to upgrade the graphic fidelity of the game. so this could very much be what sports devs in particular may look to that route to upgrade the graphics(i say sports devs because they have to release a game every year unlike majority of video games)

                  Agreed

The PS5 version of 20 will most likely just be a port, but Im curious what 21 will be like.

Should be no framerate drops on ps5 playing in 4k.

I think that's a little too much to ask for considering the 3080 benchmarks came out and didn't show over 60fps minimums across the board. While we don't know the exact details of the graphics card inside the PS5, it's a pretty safe assumption that it'll be worse than the 3080.

Also, we do know what CPU is in the PS5, and those framerate drops could come from CPU bottlenecking. Odds are MLB 20 will be locked to using only 4 threads (thanks to bring originally programmed for the PS4) so it's only the per core clock speeds that will improve that bottleneck, which are marginal.

And then you have engine limitations and possible porting issues... I'm not saying 4k 60 fps locked is impossible, it's just a much bigger ask then you realize. 1440p 60 fps is much more in the reasonable and achievable range, though I wouldn't guarantee that either.

Frame minimums are such huge hurdles to get over.

I wonder if the faster setting is an unlocked frame rate or if the max is 60fps. I’m hoping it’s unlocked, the PS5 might be able to run the current game at 120fps at 1080p. That would be great since my tv’s input lag goes from 14ms @ 60fps to 6ms @ 120fps. It’s the first thing I’m going to check when I get the PS5.
